php code in excerpt?

Hi,
I’m using the following code in my excerpts field:
<div class="img-shadowright"> <img src="FILENAME GOES HERE" alt="www.planetphillip.com" /></div><div class="clearer">&nbsp;</div>TEXT GOES HERE&nbsp;&nbsp;
I want to replace the link ref with something like this:
<?php the_ID(); ?>
but it doesn’t work, does anybody have any ideas?
