• I have read all the literature and am still mystified.

I am trying to customize my permalinks. While I am able to do this in most cases, the two instances where i am not are in two pages I have designated to be lightbox gallery pages. One is called “Editorial” and the other “commercial”.

When I plug in the name I want for that page in the Edit section next to the permalink it automatically adds a “-2” (dash two) next to it and I can’t get around it.

Is this because I’m using Bitnami to set up my site and this will go away when I transfer it to a host? Or what?

  • When WordPress automatically adds a number to a link, it means there is already a post or page that has that same name. Even if you’ve deleted the page, WordPress will still add the number. So you need to delete the page/post with the same name, and then empty the trash to completely get rid of it. You should then be able to get rid of the numbering.

Awesome! The page has been deleted for quite some time. Do you mean empty trash on my comp or somewhere else? Where?

You’d empty the trash in the WordPress Admin. So go the the Pages section, and up top there should be some links to view All, Published, etc. and one of them should be Trash. You click on that and then delete the page from there.
