I am trying to upload a new header to a theme I have installed but when using the upload function I get the following error:
Unable to create directory /home/gbse/public_html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/07. Is its parent directory writable by the server?
Thing is I don't have a folder named 'uploads' within the wp-content folder? Is this something I should have created?
Am I being really stupid?!!

No you're not, same here.
I just did two 2.6 installs over the last week or so and as I tried to upload my first .wav, got the error and after half an hour of confusion, realized that NEITHER install has the upload directory and it is NOT part of the WP zip file I downloaded.
Worked fine after I created the dir and changed permission to 777.
Maybe somebody could add the dir to the download.
