Hi, I was just alerted by a visitor to my blog that comments aren't getting in due to what seems to be a bug in the PHP code. When trying to post a comment, the following error string shows up:

'Fatal error: Cannot redeclare add_magic_quotes() (previously declared in [...]/public_html/wordpress/wp-comments-post.php:4) in [...]/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/functions.php on line 2144'

I'm running WP 2.0.4. What can I do to solve this thing? Thanks in advance.

Did you just do an upgrade from an older version of WordPress? If so, did you delete the old files before uploading new? What plugins do you have ?

Maybe one of the threads through this search result will help?

I did an upgrade a while back and comments worked perfectly for quite a while after that upgrade (too well, in fact; they were mostly spam). I made no changes whatsoever in my settings or files before this problem appeared - no new plugins, no template changes, nothing. And I only have 3 active plugins: Explicit Category Sort, Dashborad Options and Subscribe me.

Regarding the search... humpf... I made several searches for magic quotes and add magic quotes, which came up empty... I forgot to include the understrokes. :/

Still, it doesn't seem to be any of those problems, since they all arose after changes while mine came up without changing a thing... by me at least. I don't know if my provider might have changed something in the settings without telling me.

In any case, replacing wp-comments-post.php with a fresh copy solved the problem.

    Thanks
