    hallo guys.
    I'm Marina form Italy.
to be true I dont know nor Php nor MySql world.. :(

I read some post here, and notice that my problem is very common.

    here it is

    "Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at http://alessandracasale.it. This could mean your host's database server is down.
Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?"

    Just few question, by now
the name of the database..? well, I see no database in the folder, so I guess i have to choose a name ad it will be created?
the same with loging and password..

Keep on reading FAQ and support post I've notice that this blod does require MySql.. service that i did not subscribed with the site host (aruba.it)

I figured that's the main problem.. is it?
but i have an account with WP ( http://alessandracasale.wordpress.com/)

so, instead the MySql on serve can i use that one?

or use an external (and possible free) MySql?
or creating a manual database? (i think it's not so easy..)

well the blog on line is fabolus, and i could use it of course, but I'd like to personalize (expecially the header img) that's why i'm trying to use it

hope it's clear.. pardon my poor english

    thanks to you all guys

    1. Without a MySQL database (DB) WordPress (WP) will NOT work, See the Requirements: click About on the top of this page and from there Requirements on the right.
    2. No, you cannot use the Database from wpordpress.com
    3. You cannot create or use an external DB - it has to be in your hosting account.
    4. Before "personalizing" ot, you have to be able to install it ;)

    last thing:
do u know if i can personalized the tempaltes in wpordpress.com with external images?

i guess no.. but i try asking..

    ;)

No. And we do not answer support questions for wordpress.com. They have their own forum: http://wordpress.com/forums/

ok, just for trying i've found a site who provides free host with MySql..

I've done everything tha the readme file saya, and watching also the video tutorial http://www.optiniche.com/blog/freeview.php?v=wp-install

    but nothing.

    that's what it says

"It doesn't look like you've installed WP yet. Try running install.php"

then as the video says i try to connect the wp-admin/install.php and still nothing.

    so.. why?

    o.O

    thanks guys

    1. http://alessandracasale.trap17.net/blog/wp-config.php
You don't access this via your browser - you edit it before uploading

    2. i try to connect the wp-admin/install.php
You do not "connect" that file, you just shuold type its address in the browser's address bar and hit Enter.

well, i used the wrong word, but that was the sense..
    but nothing.

I've edited the wp-config.php page, then type it in Explorer bar but nothing.
and the same with the install.php page..

    really dunno why..

edited the wp-config.php page, then type it in Explorer bar

Saying the second time: you do NOT have to "run" the config file in the browser. Just edit in a plain text editor (not Word!) and upload via FTP.
Then run the install.php in the browser.
Based on what you say, your install file should be here:
    http://alessandracasale.trap17.net/blog/wp-admin/install.php
    but there is NOT there!
Are you sure you uploaded the files in that blog folder?

    yep.
just trying many and many times, i've uploaded all in the main root, so:

    http://alessandracasale.trap17.net/wp-admin/install.php

Either your site is not set up yet, or something went wrong with your upload. The address above goes back to the host site.

    unfortunately.
    tomorrow i'll try again.
otherwise i think it's the hosting site that's something wrong..

    thanks again

    o. always me.

I've tried uploading an older versione of WP (wordpress-1.2.1)

ok for the first 2 steps, then

    -----------------------------
[moderated - Don't post long code here, please!
It is difficult to read and nobody really bothers to take a look at it. You can use http://pastebin.com or similar services - and post back with the URI.
For posting small code snippets, please read carefully the instructions here below the text input area: the "backticks" usually are located on top-left of your keyboard, where ~ [tilde] is.]

    ----------------------------

    o.O

    what's that?

obviously i cant login un after that..

I supposed it's a DB error.. isnt' it?

WOW! I would NOT post long lengths of codes or DB error messages like that, that thread will be moderated then. Most likely that will be removed..and not by me. =)

It appears you have SOME or ALL of the WP tables already in the DB, that's prolly why you're getting "Duplicate entry's" shooting out like that.. :/ Wait until a moderator comes to help ya better...as I'm tired now and need sleep. =)

Once a version (say, 2.0) installed and created the database - you cannot install another, earlier version because the database structure is different. Scrap it.

Stay with the one you started with and try to make it work.

sorry guys for the long post.

just can't understand why the old version "seems" to work and not the newest one..

    :-\

i'll clear the database and remove the WP1.2 and try again with the 2.0
