Database Error Customization

    Hiiz,
    my wordpress blog is going through an issues because of heavy traffic and its on a vps not dedicated server. when traffic peaks. my cpu usage reaches 100% and my sql server gets down so sites shows cannot establish database connection.

    There are two things i want help with i will be really thankful.
    1. If u can refer me to some tips tricks to lower down cpu usage of my server.
    2. How can i modify the database error into some sort of customized msg like over capicity refresh our 5 mins etc. something like that.
    help will is appreciated.
