Beginner's Plugin Question! (13 posts)

    Hi All,

So I spent hours and hours figuring out how to get my blog hosted etc. I'm a total beginner at this stuff so please forgive my ignorance.

    My problem is this:

I signed up to have my blog at wordpress.com hosted...through GoDaddy I had WordPress installed, which I am pretty sure is the WordPress.org file that allows plugins (because I Know you must host your own account to do any plugins). So, I'm all set on that end.

Last night after all that work, I went to the dashboard for my site and saw "PLUGINS" on the left hand side. Success!

This morning, I went to the same site (at least I'm pretty sure I did), and the option is no longer there. I paid for everything necessary and worked hours searching through articles to address it.

Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be???

    Thanks in advance.

    Ben

And in case you need this too, this is my blog which is mapped to my domain.

Even when looking at files installed through Go Daddy, I see a folder labeled "Plugins" that has Akismet inside so I figure it's setup there...

    thanks.

I know that it says "wordpress.com" but I know I installed it through Go Daddy immediately. So please don't think that I didn't look into this, as I know that WordPress.com will not allow plugins...but perhaps somehow I screwed up settings somewhere.

I know that it says "wordpress.com" but I know I installed it through Go Daddy immediately.

I think that may be your problem. That's the url for your wordpress.com blog. You need the url/domain/address for your own, self-hosted, blog.

    I guess I'm confused a bit.

That makes sense what you are saying though so I'll look into it and get back to you if I can't figure it out.

    Thanks for the help.

http://thosestubbornfactsblog.com/ works fine for me though (sorry - missed the url in your earlier post).

Did you install any plugins? Have you tried switching to the default theme to see if that helps?

hey, thanks for your response and no worries about missing the first url.

After getting it all setup last night i was tired to do anything....so i stopped right after seeing the "plugin" option that I was hoping for.

Is it possible I messed up the mapping or something like that either on GoDaddy or WordPress?

The theme change doesn't work either.....perhaps I should export my blog data and start fresh on a new wordpress blog, then have it mapped to my godaddy domain? Or would that not do any good?

I could always give you all my login info for you to go into godaddy and also wordpress.com if you know you're way around, but not sure if that's OK with you. I'll do anything to get this up and running after all this effort!

First, switch the theme back to the default using Admin/Appearance/Themes. You need to be sure that this isn't a problem that's been introduced by your current theme.

Also disable Google Gears if you have that running/installed in your browser.

I know it sounds crazy but I went to exactly where you said and there's no "Default" option. I went through every page of custom theme's and looked at nearly every page....I'm sure it's not there!

Is it a particular name that isn't exactly "default"?

It is the name of the theme, that's called "default" - WordPress Default 1.6 by Michael Heilemann

I know I still sound nuts, but I looked through every theme listed on my dashboard/appearances/themes...i searched through the alphabetical list and found nothing called "default".

Should I just reset my entire blog profile? I exported my blog data so I can just load it up again afterward....is there a way to start fresh with it?
