   Having difficulties finding the appearance button to be able to change my page.

   If you have full admin privileges, it should be in your sidebar of your Admin area - along with the Plugins menu item.

   I should have full admin privileges. How can I check that? i am brand new to this.

   Can you see the Appearance, Plugins & Settings menu items in your Admin area?
