   I have tried to add new categories, but can not.

   Here is what I have done: I have written a post, then clicked 'add a new category'. I then typed in the name and then clicked on 'add a new category'. Nothing is happening.

   Does anyone have a suggestion?

   -see if increasing memory available for php resolves the issue.

   -if that does not help, try deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to narrow down and possibly fix the problem. If the problem goes away, activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the culprit.

   -if that does help either, try switching to the default theme ("twentyten") for a moment by renaming your current theme's folder in wp-content/themes. The idea is to force WordPress to fall back to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific issue.

   Thanks for the tip t-p. I don't know much about php, but I followed your advice on deactivating my plugins and discovered that my plug in 'time machine' is the culprit.

   Since I want this plug in, would checking out my php be helpful? I am not sure what this is, and if you could give me some direction, I would appreciate it.

   Probably the plug in 'time machine' is not compatible with 3.1. So, may be you want to wait until the plugin is updated by the plugin author adn made compatible with 3.1
