    Maybe I can create some sort of other widget for this. The problem by doing this is that it makes other options more complicated and cumbersome. Most likely if you have a custom post type, it has some sort of custom functionality or purpose.

    For example, if you use a custom post type, then the category option becomes irrelevant and you then have no way to categorize the posts in the scroller without knowing what sort of taxonomies you’ve associated with your custom post type. So, overall, it would make the widget more complicated and hard to follow with the options (that are already a little cumbersome).
