loss of data in forums after auto logout

    Hello,
    Earlier this morning I was tried to answer a question about how to transfer wordpress.com subscribers to a self-hosted wordpress blog. I was trying to be helpful. After I typed in my post, I clicked the Post button and I was re-directed to a new page requesting that I log in. Everything that I had just typed in was lost! This was very frustrating. There was nothing to indicate that I had been logged out. My username and the ‘log out’ link were visible.

    On other web sites in this same situation, I’ve seen an alert pop up that gives the option of “leave page and loss everything” or “stay on page.” Can this be investigated and fixed if necessary? For the web site to have behavior like this doesn’t seem professional and doesn’t encourage people to be helpful. Now that this is happened, I can try to avoid the situation, but it will likely happen to others.

    Usually you can hit the back button to get the content back.

    I tried that at the time, but it didn’t work.

    I suspect that the back button sometimes or even usually works, but that something a little more robust needs to be put in place to prevent the issue that I ran across. I pretty sure that this has happened to me before on wordpress.org.

    I also think that many people don’t time the time to report something like this because they think that they did something wrong.
