importing from blogger

    I am hosting my blogger on my own server with an FTP account, when i try to import posts from blogger to wordpress I get this:

    Publishing with new template and options
    Files published… 0%

    it keeps flashing over and over, its been doing that for about an hour now, I’m afraid to stop it as I read earlier that the importer makes changes to the blogger settings.

    a) The import can clobber your Blogger template. It says to back it up first, hope you did.

    b) Are you using old Blogger? Sounds like it. The new Blogger won’t import at all yet. If it’s the old one, and still hung up, you may not have any choice but to cancel out. This happen to me with a client, the import didn’t work, and her Blogger template was gone (she had a backup)

    The blogger importer doesn’t much like blogs hosted on your own server. Change it to host on blogspot instead and then try the importer.

    Also make a backup copy of your normal template before trying the import, because yes, it will clobber your template if anything goes wrong. If it does go wrong, you can then just paste your template back into place and republish.

    Thanks! I did fortunately back up my template (phew). And as you say it did destroy the template.

    I’ll try the blogspot idea and see if that works.
