I have multisite installed and I was wondering where the images I upload actually live. I want to edit by drag and drop, not by uploading through the library.

I can edit in settings through the Network admin, Fileupload URL:
    http://www.website.com/site1/files <— where are they?

Where is that on the server through FTP? I don’t want to edit a bunch of images on site. I’ll have to this time… but for the future?

I’ve checked in the upload folder, not there either. Thanks in advance!

They’re in wp-content/blogs.dir/#/files/ (where # is your blog number) but why would you not want to use the media uploader? When you export your blog, you’d never get to keep those other files.

Well we’re doing a pretty big overhaul and first off we have to change the photos for all of the sites to the same images, then each “dealer” for each site will have control to change it through the media uploader if they want to, I just don’t to upload the same files 14+ times.

As long as the images have the same filenames I should be good right?

That depends on what you’re doing…

In-post images should be done through the media uploader, but ‘theme’ images, for lack of another descriptor, should be in the theme. Or you could have a /images/ folder in the root of your install and point there, so all sites could use them.

What are you using these images for?

A slideshow plugin on the home page. So to replace them I would have to go into the library and add each one and add back their titles and alts, for 14 sites So drag and drop sounded easier to me. Don’t you think?

Huh. Yeah, in that case it would be easier to FTP the replacements up, though I’ve had issues when I did that with caching.

You threw me when you said you were changing it for ‘all the sites.’
