Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues.
Create a child theme for your customisations. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.
Thanks for the quick reply, are you saying I can’t use it “as is”? I just thought since the demo tells you how, that I should be able to! Is that the difference between .com and .org? I downloaded wordpress through my 3rd party host site. Will all the work I already did be lost if I do this child theme option you mention? Will I still have access to the dashboard functionality? I am really green 🙂
Thanks!
Do you just want to have a static front page rather than a list of your recent posts? If so, see Creating_a_Static_Front_Page.
Hi, yes I guess that is what I have to do (I saw this already) — I just wasn’t sure how to get rid of the “home” title… since there would be two pages called home. There are directions there, so I think I can follow them okay. I think I can still show my most recent posts, though, right? if I chose the widget that shows “recent posts” ? I will try this option and see what I get….
My configuration: WordPress 3.1.1 with up-to-date twenty-eleven theme, child theme active.
I have the same problem: I want to set the showcase option for the front page WITHOUT having to create a static page (displaying my blog posts) and setting that page (say “blog”) as the front page.
I think “www.myblog.com” is much better than “www.myblog.com/showcase” (or whatever).
So, any hint about how to do that?
thanks
This is actually really simple to do.
Follow these steps.

Emidesigns, that worked perfectly, Thank you! Also a mini-tutorial on how to use the custom menus, which seems pretty easy.
At the risk of sounding a little on the dumb side: is the ability to create a custom menu relevant to the question? If so, how exactly?
Well, I know how to create two pages: static and one for blogs.. My problem is that I see nothing when I choose ‘showcase’ template for the static one! Nothing appears not even menus and I’m not able to see any written thing inside the page! In simpler words, I’d love to have a static default page using The showcase template. Just like the one shown in wordpress.com demo showcase page. My theme is ‘2011’ & I have a child them.. Appreciate any tip.. 🙂
Note: I’ve read a lot about the issue before I posted but found nothing helpful.. Second, I think there is no need to add a new thread as my problem is similar to the one posted here.
