sidebar widgets won't display in Twenty Eleven 1.1
-
I upgraded to 3.2 this week and began running the new Twenty Eleven 1.1 theme on my blog. The problem is I can’t get any widgets to display in the main or showcase sidebars. If I move the same Widget to the footer areas they display fine. Similarly if I change to the Twenty Ten theme or another them my sidebar widget appear correctly.
I’ve already tried/checked the following:
– Checking my theme options are set to a two colunm option
– Using just a default plugin e.g meta
– De-activating all plugins
– Deleting and re-installing the theme
– Checked my host has the correct PHP and MySql requirementsAny got any additional suggestion for things I can try?

Have you tried resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
I just managed to answer my own question on this one. It was a setting in ‘Pages’
In case anyone has the same sort of n00bish issue as I did. You may want to check the following:
– Head into your admin panel
– Click on pages
– Click on ‘quick edit’ for a page
– Select ‘sidebar template/showcase template’ in the template drop down
– Click save
– Repeat for other pages as requiredThanks esmi, it was just a incorrect admin setting in the end.
in case you want to have sidebars in all single.php page, then just install this twenty-eleven child theme

Updated:
use the new child theme which will enable sidebar not only on posts, but also on pages
Hi Niraj,
So, in tweentyeleven, you have to have a Child Theme just to display the sidebar, all the time? That seems strange. You would think there would bee a simple options setting for this.

I was thinking, why can’t we just add the <?php get_sidebar(); ?> hook to the page and sidebar.php files?

kidcollect- Many thanks for posting this (before you figured it out on your own) Saved me a ton o time.
I know this is a few months past, but I’d like to point out that you can go to Pages, select all the pages whose template you want to set to Sidebar/Showcase/whatever, and then make that change as a bulk action instead of changing it one-by-one using Quick Edit.
Hello guys,
I don’t see ‘sidebar template/showcase template’ option in the page section. It just has one option in the filter “show dates”Earlier the sidebars was missing so I took help from this blog and copy pasted the code.
Sidebar came back but still I can not see widegts.Eagerly waiting for replies.
Install this child theme and you will able to see your widgets
Thanks Niraj,
It worked but it shows an icon follow on email. I tried to remove it but couldn’t find the widget. How can I remove it ?I meant, when I added social media widget, everything was right except there was an uncalled icon for “follow me on email”. So, I thought may be it is defalut thing in your child theme. But any way I removed that widget and by that icon’s also gone.
Will install another social widget. Hope everything’s fine this time.
Hi Niraj,
I’m using your child theme. I’m not able to display social share icons at the bottom or top of the post. Instead it appears in the sidebar. I guess it appears in the sidebar because i dragn drop widget for that location.
How can I place the share icons at the bottom of the posts.kuldeepraj, you ll need to download plugins which are meant for posts and pages not for widgets. Try share this plugin, which I am using for my website.
