bbPress – register.php – Failed to connect to mailserver at “localhost”

    Hello, my host runs PHP and MySQL on Windows 2003 servers and my WordPress installation works very well. Unfortunately, since installing bbPress, I am experiencing problems with email during registration. I receive the following error message:

    Warning: mail(): Failed to connect to mailserver at “localhost” port 25, verify your “SMTP” and “smtp_port” setting in php.ini or use ini_set()

    Unfortunately, I do not have control over the PHP.INI and wondered if anybody could suggest a workaround, i.e. where I should specify the mail host mail.mydomain.com ?

    You’ll need to contact your host and ask them to investigate.

    Thanks. I managed to crack it! It appears that I needed my own PHP.ini in the root of my domain. This overrides the root PHP.ini on the webserver which I do not have access to. The settings were:

    [mail function]
    ; For Win32 only.
    SMTP = mail.crystaltech.com ; for Win32 only
    smtp_port = 25
    sendmail_from= admin@primustech.co.uk ; for Win32 only
