   For some reason it's not writing to the .htaccess file. I did make sure to chmod it. What are other possible reasons it's not working? My host is running windows.

   windows with apache? or windows with iis? iis doesnt use .htaccess files.

   permalinks on iis:

   Nothing is working. I'm about to switch hosts just because of this issue.

   vskylabv: Your backpacking site is hosted on Windows IIS 5.0. If you are going to switch web hosts, check this for what to ask them:

   http://wordpress.org/about/requirements/
