• Hi.

When I create a post with a long title, I get a long URL (Post slug). Can I limit the length of it to X characters?

I know I can edit ‘Post slug’ contents, but I’m trying to find a faster way.

    Thank you very much.

  • I’m wondering that also, and also wanted to make sure it’s ok for me to edit the Post Slug later after it’s already published?

I consider it’s safe to edit Post Slug after it’s already published, since ‘post_name’ field into ‘wp_posts’ is also changed.

You must be careful, however, if you broadcasted the old URL on the Internet, because the old URL is not available anymore. So you must edit the URL/PostSlug just before publishing the post.

Thanks for that reply. Did you find your answer? I think there’s a plugin that automatically truncates URL’s (like so they don’t go too long in your sidebar). But that’s just appearances. You wanted to actually cap the character-count on the Post Slug? That sounds like a good idea….
