• I got a comment in French today (last comment on my site if you look in the sidebar at recent comments) and even though I’ve been in to edit it and re-written it myself, I can’t get it to post with the usual accents in place. I don’t recall having this problem before.
The only things I have changed are that I implemented a few anti-spam measure like the comment preview plugin and kitten’s spam delete on Friday after getting rather a lot of comments’ spam.
Does anyone know where this problem could be coming from?

  • Coding … if you use utf-8, it sure won’t work. And textile plugins seemed to create a real mess in my blog (french, iso encoded…)

My host server is also having problems right now so frustratingly I can’t even sort this out.
Without being able to get onto wordpress admin, can you remind me where the settings are accessed for utf-8 etc?
My settings haven’t been altered though, and it has worked up until now. All I can think is that the Laughing Lizard preview feature has caused a problem.
I’m going to try uninstalling it just as soon as I can get online.

Err… somewhere into the options (reading ? I think…), and same for my webhost, so I can not check, sorry T_T
Try iso-8859-1 ? I can not promise it will work.
    I suppose you did try & eacute; for é, & agrave; for à, … (without spaces after the & ) first ?

    petite anglaise,
If everything was written till now in utf-8, and you are going to change the encoding, then everything will get like that one comment now 🙂
Yes, the possibility to change the encoding is in Options > Reading.
Actually a “preview” might cause this, since it can “override” the settings… I guess.

you wouldn’t be hosted by amen by any chance?!!
    grrrrr

O_o ?? Me ? No, Swiss hosting, infomaniak. But it looks more like a global dns problem, many friends having the same problems with various hosts, and various access providers…
