Content can’t display properly!

    When I post using visual/code, I press enter two times to start a new paragraph. However in my custom-made theme the result is one huge chunk of text. The double-enters merely displays as a <br> when you design html, so the following text goes to the next line.

    However when I use the default theme it displays properly. Why?

    probably because you are depending on what you put it into the post editor to control the style, and the default theme relies on CSS — the way it ought to be.

    In other words, your custom theme needs some work.

    OK thank you. But what exactly am I missing? This is my first theme and I just started WordPress so I am not very familiar.
