• I have built my site locally using mySQL Server version: 4.0.21 and phpMyAdmin. When I uploaded to the server, I discovered my host only has mySQL Server version: 3.23.58.

Damn! Now I want to know what’s involved in me rolling back my version of WordPress to 2.0, which is compatible with mySQL version 3.23.58?

Would I need to delete the version of mySQL on the local host and install the earlier version, or is it just the version of WordPress that is the issue?

Also, can I copy the theme I created with WordPress 2.2 into the 2.0 version or are the themes not backward compatable?

    Cheers

  • If I understand correctly, you setup (self hosted?) with Mysql 4.x and WP 2.2. and you want to move that to a host running mysql 3.23.x, WP 2.0

I strongly suggest you find a host with software from the current century or convince them to upgrade.

If not, you could try this after making mysql backups and file system backups on the “local” system. DO NOT attempt to downgrade your “local” MySQL install. Install WordPress 2.0 on your new host and get the plugin that does older WP-WP imports.

It might work, 2.2 -> 2.0. It might not. If not, you fix the importer or fix the import file or both. Or go for an RSS export/import between them (loses comments) or a painful cut and paste session. They are all easier than downgrading MySQL.

The 2.2 theme is the least of your issues to worry about. In the end, you’ll get a blog on an old DB and old version of WordPress and all the new stuff just won’t happen for you. Any thing is possible but your money is better spent at a host with clue.
