Plug-in won’t go away

    I at one point installed a plug-in named FireStats used for tracking page hits. I’ve since uninstalled the plug-in and removed all files. However, when I go the admin dashboard, all I see is a Firestats control panel. Other than that, everything is fine.

    I used a text search program to look in all of the files in my blog folder. It didn’t find any strings matching *firestats*. I have no idea where my admin page keeps getting a reference to the firestats admin. Perhaps from the database? But what is telling it to do that if all references are gone?

    I did contact the author and after a few emails, we couldn’t determine how to get rid of it. The version displayed is FireStats 0.9.9-beta. I’m using WP 2.0.5. Any suggestions?

    You might first try making a copy of your current admin.php (found in the wp-admin directory) and try replacing it with one from an orginal, fresh download of WP. If it doesn’t work, you can copy back the current admin.php over it. You might do that with all the files in wp-admin that begins with “admin*.php”. Hope this helps.

    And also try the old trick of refreshing your browser’s cache. You might be reloading the old screen. In IE, Ctrl+click the refresh button. In Firefox, Ctrl+Shift+R.

    Thanks. I did try that with the admin.php and no changes. Then I tried the second suggestion but neither worked. Any other ideas?

    This is probably obvious, but have you tried upgrading to 2.0.7? I would then install without any plugins, uploading and trying them one at a time.

    So (1) Disable all plugins, (2) Delete server files (don’t just overwrite), (3) Upload 2.0.7, and (4) turn on plugins one at a time.
