Description
Smart Send brings shipping into WooCommerce. Let customers choose how they receive their order, then create shipping labels using the order details already in your store.
What you can do
- Offer home delivery and pickup points from carriers including PostNord, GLS, DAO, Bring, Burd and Budbee.
- Let customers choose a convenient pickup point at checkout.
- Set your shipping prices and offer free shipping when it suits your store.
- Create and print shipping labels directly from your orders, without copying customer details into another system.
- Create return labels and keep labels and tracking numbers together on the order.
Works with both the classic WooCommerce checkout and the WooCommerce Checkout Block.
A Smart Send account is required.
For setup instructions and detailed feature guides, visit the WooCommerce documentation.

Changelog
9.1.0
- Book only products that require shipping and reset saved parcel plans when order changes make them stale.
- Recover gracefully when a classic checkout update fails.
- Reduce the default Smart Send API timeout to 10 seconds.
- Improve logging with the smart-send log source, clearer API and pickup point errors with structured validation details, and a checkout session identifier to help trace related events.
- Book shipping or return labels for up to five selected orders from the Orders screen. Stop starting new orders after 20 seconds and report any unprocessed orders so they can be selected again.
- Align the selected pickup point name with its distance badge, and its address with the Change button, on both checkout types.
- Default to Drop-down on classic checkout and List / Map on Checkout Block, while respecting saved selector preferences.
- Keep the classic pickup point panel below the shipping method in themes that use a horizontal flex layout.
- Identify the plugin as SmartSendWoo in API requests, with WooCommerce, WordPress and PHP versions grouped in parentheses in the User-Agent header.
9.0.2
- Fix label booking incorrectly rejecting whole-number item quantities supplied as decimal values, such as 1.0.
- Show a clear error when item quantities are fractional: label booking requires positive whole numbers.
9.0.1
- Fix pickup point alignment in the classic checkout when Swiipe checkout styles are active. Pickup point rows keep their full width, and opening hours stay below the pickup point details on desktop and mobile.
9.0.0
- Complete rewrite of the plugin, now built around a clear separation between fulfillment (deciding what ships and how, and updating the WooCommerce order) and booking (ordering the shipment from the carrier)
- PHP classes now use Smart_Send namespaces, WordPress naming conventions and a bundled autoloader; no Composer installation is required
- Revised hook and filter API (smart_send_*) for every stage: shipping methods at checkout, fulfillment and booking. Several version 8 hooks were removed or changed; review custom snippets against the Developers section
- Support for the WooCommerce Checkout Block: pickup point selection now works in the block-based checkout as well as the classic checkout
- Validate pickup points against their carrier and country, preserve explicit choices when nearest results refresh, and resolve missing caches through the API before saving an order or booking a label
- Use smart_send_pickup_point_list to filter, reorder or limit pickup points before caching and checkout display
- Pickup point lookups now also work for addresses that contain a slash (e.g. “Vestergade 10/2”)
- Clear, translated messages when the connection to Smart Send fails – an API token that is not accepted, a website that is not registered in Smart Send, or an API token whose user has no access to the website – shown the same way when validating the token, at checkout, on the order screen and in the log. A rejected shipment lists the fields to fix, and every failure carries the Smart Send response ID for support
- Use the plain-text smart_send_pickup_point_label filter for pickup labels; remove the pre-release option-label and default-selection filters
- Support for High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS)
- Check permissions before pickup-point custom-field lookups or changes, reject metadata rows belonging to another order, and persist pickup-point deletion with both order storage backends
- Rebuilt order-screen meta box: books without a page reload, lets you change the shipping method, pickup point and parcels (weight and dimensions per box) before booking, and books orders placed with another shipping method. A booking is confirmed right in the box – the shipment with a link into the Smart Send app, every parcel with its tracking number, weight and dimensions, and the documents – and the newest 50 booked labels appear under “Booked shipments”, with existing older shipment IDs still accessible; the form stays open for further bookings
- Require confirmation before repeating any requested shipping or return label, including combined bookings; a stale order screen can confirm after the server reports an existing label
- Save booking notes through WooCommerce’s order-note API and show them in its native history after a reload, while the Smart Send box confirms the booking immediately
- Render pickup-point addresses as readable text in plain-text order emails and escaped HTML in HTML emails and customer order pages
- Preserve other plugins’ redirect URLs and result parameters when they handle bulk order actions
- Use WooCommerce Subscriptions 4.9+ renewal data hooks, exclude previous labels/history/tracking, and rebind parcel allocations to the renewal’s new order-item IDs; automatically reset the parcel plan when correspondence cannot be established
- Parcel allocations now use WooCommerce order-item IDs, keeping repeated purchases of the same product separate and requiring every shippable unit to be allocated exactly once. Item quantities and discounted amounts are aggregated per line and parcel, with rounding that preserves line totals
- Replace the old product-ID parcel split format with a canonical parcel plan. Unsupported or outdated saved splits automatically reset to one parcel with a warning; parcel weights and dimensions remain per booking
- Include only products requiring shipping in label booking, parcel allocations, packing lists and shipment values, respecting WooCommerce shipping filters; orders containing only products that do not require shipping cannot book shipping or return labels
- Deleted products and variations display as “Deleted” without a SKU. Existing booked labels remain accessible; new bookings require an explicit parcel weight when a product’s weight is unavailable
- Read and save product customs fields through WooCommerce product objects; preserve quoted text and leading-zero HS codes, ignore malformed inputs, and keep variation overrides intact
- New filter smart_send_fulfillment_shipping_methods: restrict the shipping methods the order screen’s “Smart Send” box offers in its method drop-downs, per order and per direction – see the Developers section
- Minimum required WordPress version raised to 6.5
- Minimum required WooCommerce version raised from 4.7 to 8.2
- Show a dependency notice without loading WooCommerce integrations when WooCommerce is missing or older than 8.2
- Minimum required PHP version is 7.4 (unchanged since 8.2.0)
- Tested with WordPress 7.1 and WooCommerce 11.1
- The plugin is renamed from “Smart Send Logistics” to “Smart Send” (the plugin slug smart-send-logistics is unchanged, so updates arrive as before)
- Checkout pickup points are chosen from an inline list of the nearest pickup points – name, distance, street and postcode/city on each row, with the opening hours of the active point behind “Show opening hours” – on both the classic checkout and the Checkout Block; the chosen point collapses to a summary card with a Change link
- Selection is required unless a pickup point was pre-selected; the list and the choice survive checkout refreshes, and a choice is remembered per carrier and country while switching between shipping rates
- “Change” starts over: the chosen pickup point is cleared and the customer sees the list exactly as they first saw it, with nothing selected, also when “Select Default” is on. With JavaScript disabled on the classic checkout the list simply opens with the current point still checked, and the customer changes it by picking another row
- Editing the delivery address (country, postcode, city or street) clears the chosen pickup point, so a point near the new address has to be chosen – or is filled in again by “Select Default”. A choice still survives a refresh of the list for the same address: a failed lookup, an empty result, or a shop’s own filtering of the list
- New setting “Pickup point selector” decides the whole checkout rendering: “List” (the default), “List / Map” for the same list with a map beside it, or “Drop-down” to keep the previous selector for themes that do not display the list correctly. The old “Dropdown format” setting is gone – a pickup point is labelled “Company, Street, Postcode City” and the smart_send_pickup_point_label filter is how that line is changed
- New filter smart_send_pickup_point_preselect: choose which of the nearest pickup points is pre-selected; the “Select Default” setting is its built-in, removable callback, and a pre-selected point is verified again through the same filter when the order is placed
- The checkout now tells the two pickup point failures apart, because they are not the same thing: when the carrier has no pickup points for the address it says “Ships to the nearest pickup point.”, and when the entered address could not be resolved at all it says “We could not find the nearest pickup points. The carrier decides the pickup point when the order ships.” A lookup that simply failed still says “The carrier will deliver to your nearest pickup point.” The order can always be placed, an order note records why, and every empty or failed lookup is logged
- The nearest pickup points are kept for ten minutes per address, so a checkout refresh with the same address makes no new API call
- Requires WordPress 6.7 and WooCommerce 10.0 or newer (PHP 7.4 is unchanged). Sites on older versions are not offered this update and keep running 8.2.0, the last release that supports them – nothing breaks, they simply stop receiving new releases. WooCommerce 10.0 itself requires WordPress 6.7, and it is the release that made the Cart and Checkout blocks the default on new installations
- The classic checkout renders the list inside the chosen rate, falls back to a full-width row when a theme drops WooCommerce’s woocommerce_after_shipping_rate hook, and logs a warning plus a one-time admin notice when both hooks are missing; the list works with JavaScript disabled
- The list inherits the theme’s colours and fonts and can be tuned through documented –ss-pickup-* CSS custom properties; the checkout stylesheet is loaded on checkout pages only
- Checkout Block strings are translatable through the plugin’s language packs (Domain Path header and script translations for the block and the classic list)
- New pickup point search: a postcode field above the list looks for pickup points near another postcode, or near the customer’s position on HTTPS shops, without changing the delivery address – with a “Use my delivery address” button back to the nearby list. The country always follows the shipping address, so the search appears once the address is filled in
- The pickup point list shows five points at a time with a back and a forward arrow under it and a “Page 4 of 5” indicator between them, which move one page at a time and show that page in place. The same control works on the nearby list, on a search and on the map. New setting “Pickup points per page” changes how many a page holds (the smart_send_pickup_point_page_size filter still overrides it for shops with a snippet). It applies to the drop-down selector as well, and the drop-down has no pager: there the number is simply how many pickup points it offers, so a shop using the drop-down should raise it – 15, say – rather than leave it at 5
- “Search this area” fetches the whole part of the map the customer is looking at in one request: every pickup point in it is drawn as a marker, and the list below pages through them five at a time without asking the shop again. Tapping a marker moves the list to the page its pickup point is on
- Pressing Map does the same for the ordinary list: the whole list is fetched once, so the map draws every pickup point rather than the five the list happened to be showing, and paging afterwards – on the map or back on the list – costs no further requests. If that one request fails the customer is put back on the list with the same short notice a map that could not be drawn shows, never on an empty map
- The distance is a small badge on the pickup point’s own line, at every screen size
- “Search this area” no longer refuses a zoomed-out map. It searches whatever the customer is looking at, shows the closest hundred pickup points and says “Only showing the closest 100. Zoom in for a better result.” when there are more – instead of the old “Zoom in to search this area.”, which refused before it had looked
- Tapping a marker now highlights that pickup point in the list instead of showing it in a separate card under the map, and tapping a marker is the only way to reach a point on the map – the previous / next stepper under the map is gone. The list is the one place a pickup point’s details are read and the way to choose a pickup point with the keyboard, and moving around the map still chooses nothing
- An order can no longer be blocked by a pickup point lookup: when the order is placed the chosen point is verified against the Smart Send API, and if that call fails for any reason the order still goes through – from the copy the checkout session already verified, or, failing that, with the chosen pickup point’s reference so the shipment can still be booked. The failure is logged. A customer who selected nothing is still asked to choose
- The card’s “Change” is now the only control for choosing another pickup point at every screen size – the separate full-width “Choose another pickup point” button is gone, and on a narrow checkout column the point’s name gets a line of its own with the distance and “Change” beside each other below it
- The keyboard focus ring on the pickup point list is the theme’s own: the plugin no longer draws one, so it looks exactly like the rest of the checkout in every shop
- On the Checkout Block the pickup point rows are built from WooCommerce’s own radio control, so the radio, its focus ring, the name and the distance take whatever styling the theme already gives the shipping method radios above them – no extra CSS, and the rows no longer show the browser’s default radio
- The pickup point list can be used entirely from the keyboard: the arrow keys move through the points without choosing one, and Enter or Space chooses the point the customer has moved to – as does clicking it, or simply moving on to the next field
- New map in the pickup point list: a List / Map toggle shows the same pickup points as numbered markers, with a popup per marker and a “Search this area” button for the part of the map the customer panned to. Tapping a marker opens its popup and never chooses the point by itself, the list stays available as the keyboard path, and the map code is downloaded only when the customer presses Map
- The map is drawn with Google Maps when a Google Maps API key is entered in the settings, which is what we recommend, and with OpenStreetMap when the field is left empty – the map works either way; if Google refuses the key the customer still gets a working map and the shop owner gets a notice. The map is offered by choosing “List / Map” as the Pickup point selector, and the new filters smart_send_pickup_map_provider and smart_send_pickup_map_tile_url choose the provider and the tile host
