Interlink — Internal Links & Orphan Finder

Description

Interlink audits how your posts link to each other, finds orphan posts (published content with zero internal links pointing to it — invisible to Google and readers), and suggests relevant internal links you can add with one click.

The catch that sets it apart: it is 100% self-contained and non-destructive. It reads only your own WordPress database — no crawling, no external APIs, no tracking — and it only ever turns text that already exists in a post into a link. It never writes new sentences, never rewrites your content, and every suggestion is shown for your approval before anything changes. Undo any insertion anytime.

What it does

  • Internal link audit — total internal links, orphans, under-linked and well-linked posts, and a per-post status list with recommended link counts.
  • Orphan finder — lists every published post with no inbound internal links, and helps you fix each one.
  • Smart suggestions — for any post, finds topically related posts (by focus keyword, title, and shared categories/tags) where an existing phrase can naturally become a link.
  • One-click insert (approve-first) — wraps an existing phrase in a link to the target. Edit the anchor first if you like. Nothing is added to your content. Bulk-insert multiple at once.
  • Undo — every inserted link is logged and can be reverted to plain text in one click.
  • Broken internal-link checker — finds links pointing to missing, trashed, or unpublished posts (archives are never falsely flagged).
  • Auto-link rules — map a keyword to a URL and link existing occurrences site-wide, with optional silo mode (only within shared category/tag) and optional auto-apply on save.
  • Anchor-text diversity report — flags over-used anchor text so you don’t look over-optimized.
  • Cornerstone content — mark key posts so suggestions prioritize linking to them.
  • Editor meta box — see a post’s links in/out and its status right in the editor.
  • CSV export, weekly scheduled scan, role control, and import/export of settings.
  • Optional AI relevance (bring your own OpenAI/Gemini key) and optional Google Search Console (your own Google app) — both off by default; the plugin is fully self-contained without them.

Why internal linking matters

Internal links help search engines discover and understand your content and keep readers moving through your site. Orphaned posts are the biggest, most common gap — and the hardest to spot by hand.

Works great with Rank Math

If a post has a Rank Math focus keyword, that keyword is used as the preferred anchor. No SEO plugin is required — it falls back to the post title.

Built by ReadyGo Tools

Made by ReadyGo Tools. If you’d rather have your internal linking optimized automatically across your whole site as you publish, ReadyGo Tools offers a managed SEO service — but this plugin is free, complete, and has no upsell nag.

External services

By default this plugin makes no external requests — all analysis runs locally against your own WordPress database, with no tracking.

One optional, off-by-default feature connects to a third-party service only if you enable it and supply your own credentials:

  • AI relevance (optional). If you enable it and enter your own OpenAI or Google Gemini API key, the plugin sends the current post’s title and text plus candidate post titles to that provider to rank internal-link suggestions. Requests go directly from your site to the provider you chose, authenticated with your key, and only when you turn it on.
    • OpenAI — https://api.openai.com — Terms: https://openai.com/policies/terms-of-use — Privacy: https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
    • Google Gemini — https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com — Terms: https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms — Privacy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

If you never enable these options, the plugin remains fully self-contained.

  4. Check the Orphans tab and start fixing.

FAQ

Does it change my content?

Only when you click Insert, and only by turning an existing phrase into a link. It never adds new text, and you can undo any insertion.

Does it make external requests or track anything?

No. It is fully self-contained — it reads only your own database and calls no outside services.

Why does an orphan sometimes show no suggestions?

Because no other post already contains that post’s keyword or title as plain, unlinked text. The plugin never invents anchor text — add the phrase naturally to a related post, then rescan.

Does it work without an SEO plugin?

Yes. It uses a Rank Math focus keyword if present, otherwise the post title.

Will it slow down my site?

No. It has zero front-end footprint, loads assets only on its own admin screens, and caches the link map in a small table.
