Foldara – Media Library Folder Tree

Description

Foldara adds a modern folder tree to the left side of your WordPress Media Library, so you can organize hundreds or thousands of files without scrolling through one long list.

Your files are never moved on disk and no URLs change. Folders are virtual, so images already used in your posts and pages keep working.

Features

  • Folder tree in the Media Library with file counts for every folder, plus “All files” and “Uncategorized” views.
  • Create, rename and delete folders from the toolbar, the right-click menu or the “…” button next to a folder.
  • Nested folders with unlimited depth.
  • Drag and drop folders to reorder them or to move them inside another folder.
  • Drag and drop files from the grid or list view into any folder. Drag several selected files at once.
  • Upload an entire folder: the folder structure of your computer is recreated as folders in the Media Library.
  • Upload into the selected folder: files you upload go straight into the folder you are viewing.
  • Per-file upload progress panel showing which files finished and which failed.
  • Folder bar in the media picker: when you insert an image from the post editor, folders are shown above the images so you can filter quickly.
  • Safe delete options: delete a folder and keep its files (moved to the parent folder), or delete the folder together with all its files.
  • Search folders, collapse all, refresh counts, and resize the sidebar by dragging its edge.
  • Works in both Media Library views: grid and list.
  • Counts and the library refresh automatically after uploading or deleting files.
  • Folder column in the list view.
  • Clean, responsive interface; the sidebar adapts to small screens.

How it works

Each file belongs to one folder. Folders are stored with the WordPress taxonomy system, so there are no extra database tables.

FAQ

Does it change the file locations or URLs of my images?

No. Folders are virtual. Files stay in the same place in wp-content/uploads and keep the same URLs.

Can a file be in more than one folder?

No. Each file belongs to a single folder, which keeps the tree simple and the counts accurate.

What happens to my files if I deactivate the plugin?

Nothing. Your Media Library works as before. Your folders are kept and will be there when you activate the plugin again.

Does it work with the grid and list views?

Yes. In list view, selecting a folder reloads the page with that folder’s files.
