FastTradein Trade-in Widget

Description

FastTradein is a trade-in and buyback management platform for electronics retailers. This plugin connects your WordPress or WooCommerce pages to FastTradein through a block or shortcode. Customers request a valuation on your website; your team manages requests, device inspections, revised offers and handover records in the FastTradein workspace.

What your customers do

  • Pick a device: a smartphone, laptop, tablet, smartwatch, headphones or a console.
  • Answer a few questions about its condition and see a preliminary price from your own price list.
  • Send a trade-in request. It lands in your FastTradein workspace.

What your store does in the workspace

  • Checks the device at intake. If it turns out worse than described, the customer gets a new offer by link and accepts or declines it.
  • Keeps a handover record for every deal, with the IMEI or serial number if you enter it.
  • Records the agreed payout method: bank transfer, store credit towards a purchase or a store voucher with a bonus. Your store handles the payment or purchase.
  • Takes devices in at the counter of your shop with the same prices.

What the plugin adds

  • The FastTradein trade-in widget block for the block editor.
  • The [fasttradein] shortcode for the classic editor, Elementor, other page builders and widget areas.
  • A settings page for your public store key, language, maximum width and where the widget script loads.
  • An interactive read-only preview in Settings and the block editor, with a bundled preview build of the shared renderer and the hosted catalog and valuation service. Contact forms, requests and notifications are disabled. A supported FastTradein preview API and an allowed website are required.
  • By default, the widget script loads only on pages that show the widget. You can explicitly enable loading it on every page for widget tags placed in templates. The script carries cache exclusion attributes used by LiteSpeed Cache.

The widget is a web component with its own styles. Test it with your theme and cache settings before publishing it. The widget supports English, German, Spanish, Polish, Ukrainian and Russian. Its automatic language setting follows the WordPress locale of each page, including locales set by multilingual plugins. The settings page, notices and editor preview follow the language of the WordPress dashboard in those same six languages.

Trade-in requests do not become WooCommerce orders. They live in your FastTradein workspace, and on the Business and Pro plans you can send them to your CRM through webhooks.

You need a FastTradein account. The plugin is free. FastTradein is a subscription service with no commission on deals, and the first 14 days are free with no card required. Plans and prices: fasttradein.app. Follow the plugin setup steps below. An alternative manual embed guide for WooCommerce is available at fasttradein.app/woocommerce-trade-in; that guide describes installation without this plugin.

External services

This plugin connects to FastTradein (https://fasttradein.app), a hosted trade-in service, to show the trade-in widget.

  • By default, the browser loads the widget script from https://fasttradein.app/widget/fasttradein.js on pages with the block or shortcode. If the administrator enables loading on every page, the script is loaded site-wide.
  • The browser uses your public store key and the selected language to request the store configuration, device catalog and available questions from FastTradein. When a visitor searches the catalog, the search text is sent to FastTradein. These requests include normal HTTP metadata such as the visitor’s IP address and browser information; Origin or referrer information depends on the browser’s policy.
  • While a visitor uses the widget, it sends the chosen device and the answers about its condition to FastTradein to calculate a preliminary price.
  • When a visitor sends a trade-in request, the widget sends the name, email and phone number they enter and the payout method they choose to FastTradein, where the request goes to the store’s workspace.
  • If a visitor submits the optional missing-model form, the widget sends the model description and contact details they enter to FastTradein.

The plugin makes no server-to-server requests from WordPress and stores only its settings there. The browser contacts the FastTradein service as described above. FastTradein terms of service: https://fasttradein.app/terms. Privacy policy: https://fasttradein.app/privacy.

Preview connection and privacy

No FastTradein connection is made merely by opening Settings or the block editor. After you click Start interactive preview, your browser sends your public store key and website origin to https://fasttradein.app/api/widget-preview-session/ to obtain read-only access for ten minutes. Catalog searches, selected device and condition answers are sent to the preview API to calculate a price. This does not create trade-in requests, collect customer contact information, send mail or webhooks, change billing status, or count a widget installation. The admin renderer is bundled locally with the plugin and checked against a release-pinned Subresource Integrity hash. SRI checks the delivered script against that fixed release hash; it is not a general filesystem security mechanism. No remote renderer script executes in the admin preview. Catalog and price data still come from FastTradein after Start. The current renderer sends its short-lived capability in an HTTP header rather than the URL; no token is saved in WordPress or browser storage. Stop removes the preview and aborts its pending data requests. Restart after access expires.

Colors and fonts come from your FastTradein workspace. New stores without a chosen background use white. Existing custom colors are preserved. Width is controlled by the plugin or the block/shortcode. The preview fails closed if the hosted service has not yet been updated; it never falls back to the live submission API.

FAQ

Do I need a FastTradein account?

Yes. The plugin places the widget, and FastTradein prices the devices and keeps the requests. The first 14 days are free, no card required.

Does it work without WooCommerce?

Yes. The widget works on any WordPress page. With WooCommerce it works the same way: trade-in requests stay in your FastTradein workspace and do not become WooCommerce orders.

Why does the widget not show on my page?

Check that the store key is saved in Settings FastTradein, that your site address is in the workspace store settings, and that the page cache was cleared after your changes. Administrators see a note in place of the widget while no key is saved.

Can a page show the widget in another language?

Yes. Choose the language in the block settings, or use the shortcode with the lang attribute, for example [fasttradein lang="de"]. Supported: en, de, es, pl, ru, uk.

Can I change the width and preview it?

Yes. Choose Fit the page container, 480, 680 or 840 px maximum in Settings. Override it in a block or use [fasttradein width="480"]. The page column remains the upper limit. Width and language changes appear before saving. Start interactive preview to connect to the read-only catalog and price service; it never opens a contact form or creates requests. Colors and fonts are configured in your FastTradein workspace.

Does the plugin store customer data?

No. The plugin stores only its own settings in your WordPress database. What a customer enters in the widget goes to FastTradein, see External services below.

Does it sync WooCommerce orders, products or coupons?

No. The plugin embeds the FastTradein widget. It does not sync WooCommerce products, stock, customers or orders, does not transfer money and does not automatically redeem store vouchers at WooCommerce checkout.

Does the widget show FastTradein branding?

On the Starter plan the widget shows a small “Powered by FastTradein” line under the form. The hosted FastTradein script adds it to its own widget output, and the Business and Pro plans hide it. The plugin itself adds no links or credits to your site, and the preview renderer bundled for the WordPress admin contains no credit line.

Will a widget update need a plugin update?

The public storefront script comes from fasttradein.app and updates with the service. The renderer used in the WordPress admin is bundled with the plugin and changes only through a plugin update.

Why does the preview report that the editor website is not allowed?

The editor origin may differ from the public storefront, especially with domain mapping or multisite. The error shows the actual editor origin. Allow that origin for the same store in FastTradein as well as the storefront; do not replace the public website with an unrelated address. The plugin never bypasses the service domain check.

What happens when I deactivate or delete the plugin?

Deactivation preserves settings. The block no longer renders and existing shortcodes may appear as raw [fasttradein] text until removed or the plugin is reactivated. Deleting the plugin removes only its settings, including settings on subsites in a multisite network. It does not delete your FastTradein workspace or trade-in requests.

Changelog

1.1.8

  • Use standard WordPress translation files. The bundled PO, MO and script JSON files replace the custom string catalog; installed WordPress.org language packs take priority over them.
  • Translate the block title, description and keywords in the block inserter.
  • Remove the unused credit line code from the preview renderer bundled for the WordPress admin. Public widget branding stays in the hosted FastTradein script.

1.1.7

  • Use the standard WordPress direct-access guard in the language directory index.
  • Update the bundled renderer source notes to match the 17-file release package.

1.1.6

  • Settings, notices and the editor preview follow the WordPress dashboard language: English, German, Spanish, Polish, Ukrainian and Russian.

1.1.5

  • Reject search responses with an invalid results structure instead of showing a false empty result.
  • Keep preview connecting until configuration succeeds and show configuration errors next to the controls.

1.1.4

  • Clear old device search results immediately while a new search is pending and announce the search state.
  • Distinguish an invalid service response from a network connection failure in search errors.

1.1.3

  • Show localized retryable errors when preview requests time out or return incomplete or invalid responses. Manual Stop, Restart and block removal still cancel quietly.

1.1.2

  • Fix preview search and popular devices using the same capability transport as other preview requests.
  • Keep preview read-only for stores with an expired trial.
  • Preserve the saved public key when invalid settings are submitted; trim surrounding Unicode spaces.
  • Let content editors preview with the saved public key and clarify missing-key and unknown-key messages.
  • Pin renderer integrity to the release and package only an explicit file list with stable ZIP metadata.
  • Describe FastTradein as trade-in and buyback management software.

1.1.1

  • Bundle the audited admin preview renderer locally with an integrity check and readable source.
  • Abort preview requests on Stop and key or language changes; show live-widget availability.
  • Reject invalid explicit keys instead of changing them; clean plugin options across multisite on uninstall.
  • Clarify preview API and editor-origin errors and document the separate service update.

1.1.0

  • Interactive read-only Settings and Gutenberg preview with explicit connection consent.
  • Unified hosted widget styling, responsive language controls and white default background.
  • Approved FastTradein thin-line logo.

1.0.3

  • Add responsive maximum widths in Settings, each block and the shortcode.
  • Increase language buttons to 44 px high on WordPress pages, with a balanced 3-by-2 layout in narrow columns.
  • Add a local sample layout preview with desktop and phone views.

1.0.1

  • Reject malformed key and language attributes without PHP warnings.
  • Preserve existing cache exclusion attributes and add missing ones without duplication.

1.0.0

  • First release: the block, the [fasttradein] shortcode and the settings page.
