Description
DisclosureGuard Drift Check runs the live DisclosureGuard drift checker against any public image URL — for example, an image in your own Media Library — and shows you:
- Whether C2PA Content Credentials and XMP provenance metadata are present before upload
- Whether they survive a simulated social-platform upload pipeline (recompression and metadata handling)
- The checker’s findings, in plain language
If you publish AI-generated or AI-edited images, platform pipelines can silently strip the very metadata your disclosure relies on. This plugin tells you before you post. Ongoing monitoring, fix lists, scheduled re-checks and multi-asset coverage live in the DisclosureGuard web platform; this plugin is the free, single-check tool.

External services
This plugin connects to the DisclosureGuard API to perform checks. This
functionality is the plugin’s core purpose and only runs when you use it:
- Service: DisclosureGuard API — https://disclosureguard.getingeniousai.com
- What is sent: only the image URL you enter, and only when you (a) enable
the checker in the plugin’s settings and (b) click “Run drift check”.
The service fetches that image and returns the analysis. - No WordPress site data, user data, or content is sent. No tracking.
- Terms: https://disclosureguard.getingeniousai.com/terms
- Privacy: https://disclosureguard.getingeniousai.com/privacy
The plugin makes no external calls until the checker is enabled in its
settings, and an administrator can disable it again at any time.
Installation
- Upload the
disclosureguard-drift-checkfolder to/wp-content/plugins/, or install the zip via Plugins > Add New > Upload. - Activate the plugin.
- Go to Tools > Drift Check, enable the checker (one checkbox that discloses the external call), and run your first check.
FAQ
-
What exactly is checked?
-
The checker fetches the image, records its provenance state (C2PA manifest, XMP metadata, claim generator), then runs it through a simulated platform upload pipeline and records what survives. The result you see is the live checker’s own output for that image.
-
Does it check my whole site or library automatically?
-
No. Each check is one image URL that you enter deliberately. Bulk scans, scheduled re-checks and monitoring are part of the DisclosureGuard web platform.
-
Is any of my data sent anywhere?
-
Only the image URL you enter, only after you enable the checker and click run. See the “External services” section above.
-
Why did my check say the free quota is reached?
-
The public checker allows 5 checks per hour per visitor. Wait and retry, or use the DisclosureGuard platform for higher volume.

Changelog
1.0.1
- Fix: activation fatal — the uninstall callback is now a named function instead of an anonymous closure, which WordPress could not serialize (“Serialization of ‘Closure’ is not allowed”).
1.0.0
- Initial release: single-image drift check from Tools > Drift Check, with consent-gated external calls and full before/after provenance reporting.
