Description
Citeon AI Connect is the WordPress side of Citeon (https://www.citeon.ai), a service that measures how AI assistants and search engines see a website and proposes fixes grounded in the live pages. You approve each fix in Citeon, and this plugin applies it here:
- SEO titles and meta descriptions of posts, pages, categories and tags, written into the SEO plugin you already use (Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress or Slim SEO), or kept by Citeon AI Connect when you use none.
- Image alt text, in the media library, and filled in on images already placed in posts whose alt is empty.
- Structured data (JSON-LD) for your site and for single pages, printed in the page head.
- llms.txt at the root of your site, and robots.txt lines that let AI search crawlers in, added after your SEO plugin’s own rules.
Every change is logged in Citeon with the value it replaced and can be undone there. Before each write Citeon checks that the field still holds the value you approved the fix against, so it never overwrites an edit made in WordPress in the meantime.
Articles
Citeon can also publish articles you approve, as posts. The plugin does not contain article code: Citeon creates and updates those posts through WordPress’s own REST API (wp/v2/posts and wp/v2/media), as the Citeon user described below. Undoing an article in Citeon sets the post back to draft; nothing is deleted.
What access Citeon gets
Connecting creates a dedicated WordPress user, “Citeon”, with its own limited role, Citeon AI Connect. That user can create and edit posts and pages, upload media, and change the fields this plugin manages. It cannot install, update or remove plugins or themes, create or edit users, or change site settings. It has a random password nobody knows and is used only through an Application Password, which Settings > Citeon AI Connect > Disconnect revokes at once. Posts and media Citeon creates carry the administrator who connected as their author.
External services
This plugin works with Citeon (https://www.citeon.ai), a software service by Ferrarix. A Citeon account is needed.
- What: Citeon connects to your site’s REST API, as the Citeon user, to read and write the items listed above.
- When: only after an administrator clicks Connect to Citeon, and only for changes approved in Citeon. The plugin itself never sends data to Citeon or anywhere else on its own.
- What data: when you click Connect to Citeon, your browser is sent to Citeon with your site address, the Citeon user’s username and its new Application Password. Afterwards Citeon reads the titles, descriptions, alt text and structured data of the pages it fixes.

FAQ
-
What happens when I deactivate the plugin?
-
Everything the plugin prints stops right away: structured data, llms.txt, robots.txt lines, and SEO titles and descriptions it stores itself. Titles and descriptions written into your SEO plugin and alt text in the media library stay, because they are now part of your site; undo them in Citeon. Deleting the plugin removes everything it stored, revokes Citeon’s access and removes the Citeon user and role.
-
Can Citeon change my plugins, users or settings?
-
No. The Citeon user’s role allows posts, pages, media and this plugin’s fields only.
-
Does Citeon change my theme or files?
-
No. Nothing is written into your theme or into files on the server.
-
Application Passwords are turned off on my site
-
Some security plugins and hosts turn them off. Citeon needs them to connect; the settings page tells you when they are off.

Changelog
2.1.0
- Citeon now works through its own “Citeon” user with a limited role instead of an administrator’s Application Password. Connecting again revokes the password an earlier version created for your account.
- robots.txt lines from Citeon are added after Slim SEO and All in One SEO build robots.txt. Slim SEO’s robots.txt editor used to replace them, and All in One SEO rewrote them.
2.0.0
- Connect to Citeon from the settings page, and disconnect there.
- Apply and undo SEO titles, meta descriptions, alt text and page structured data approved in Citeon, through Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress, Slim SEO, or on its own.
- Deactivating keeps your data, so turning the plugin back on restores it; deleting the plugin removes it.
1.1.0
- Page caches are purged after Citeon applies files.
1.0.0
- Site structured data, llms.txt and robots.txt rules applied by Citeon.
