Description
Glizano Checkout Latino for WooCommerce replaces free-text city inputs in the WooCommerce checkout with fast, local chained dropdowns for Costa Rica, Colombia and Mexico, and adds an optional tax or national identification field validated for each country’s official format.
Key Features
- Chained location lists by country:
- Costa Rica (CR): 7 provinces (provincias), 84 cantons (cantones) and 494 districts (distritos), sorted alphabetically.
- Colombia (CO): 32 departments plus Bogota D.C. (33 departments in total) and 1,122 official municipalities (municipios).
- Mexico (MX): 32 federal entities (estados) and 2,476 official municipalities and boroughs (municipios y alcaldias).
- Optional identification field with format validation:
- Costa Rica: Cedula fisica (9 digits), Cedula juridica or NITE (10 digits), and DIMEX (11 to 12 digits).
- Colombia: Cedula de ciudadania or extranjeria (6 to 10 digits) and NIT (8 to 10 digits with optional check digit
-D). - Mexico: RFC for individuals (13 characters) or companies (12 characters) with valid
YYMMDDcalendar date verification.
- 100% local, fast and privacy-friendly:
- Runs completely inside your WordPress installation. There are no external services, no remote API calls, and no customer data ever leaves your store.
- The identification number and the Costa Rica district are stored only on the WooCommerce order metadata (compatible with High-Performance Order Storage, HPOS), alongside the rest of the shipping and billing address fields.
- When a shopper selects any country other than Costa Rica, Colombia or Mexico, standard WooCommerce checkout fields remain unchanged.
Official Data Sources
All territorial divisions are bundled locally in static JSON files built from official public sources:
- Costa Rica: Official Administrative Territorial Division (Division Territorial Administrativa de la Republica de Costa Rica), published by the National Geographic Institute (IGN) and the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), including all 84 cantons.
- Colombia: Political-Administrative Division Coding of Colombia (DIVIPOLA), published by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) on Colombia Open Data (
https://www.datos.gov.co/resource/gdxc-w37w.json). - Mexico: Unique Catalog of Keys for State, Municipal and Local Geostatistical Areas (National Geostatistical Framework), published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

FAQ
-
Does this plugin connect to any external service?
-
No. All territorial lists and validation rules are bundled locally inside the plugin. No customer or order data ever leaves your store.
-
Where is the identification number stored?
-
It is stored only in the WooCommerce order metadata (
_billing_glzcl_id_numberin the classic checkout, or the WooCommerce additional fieldglizano-checkout-latino/id-numberin the Checkout block), just like the shipping address, and is displayed in the WooCommerce admin order panel and order summary. It is never saved to the customer account. -
Does it work with the WooCommerce Checkout block?
-
Yes. Stores created with WooCommerce 8.3 or later use the Checkout block by default, and the plugin supports it (WooCommerce 8.9 or later):
- Provinces, departments and states appear with their official names.
- The Canton (Costa Rica) or Municipality (Colombia, Mexico) field suggests the official list of the selected province or state while the shopper types, and is validated when the order is placed. It is saved with its official name, so “escazu” becomes “Escazú”.
- Costa Rica adds a District field with suggestions, required only for Costa Rica.
- The optional identification field appears in “Additional order information”, only for Costa Rica, Colombia and Mexico, with the same format validation.
In the classic checkout (the
[woocommerce_checkout]shortcode), Canton, District and Municipality are dropdown lists. -
Can I charge shipping by canton or district, or offer cash on delivery only in some areas?
-
Not in this plugin. Glizano Checkout Latino Pro, a separate paid add-on, adds a WooCommerce shipping method with a cost per province, canton or district (or department, state or municipality) and limits cash on delivery to the areas you choose: https://checkout-latino.glizano.dev/
-
What happens when a customer selects another country?
-
If the customer selects a country other than Costa Rica, Colombia or Mexico, WooCommerce’s standard checkout fields work as usual without modification.
