Description
Prajesh Draft Importer simplifies the handoff from a marketing spreadsheet to WordPress drafts.
Select Posts, Pages, or an eligible custom post type. Download an empty CSV or Excel template with matching column names. Upload the completed sheet, review row validation, and create drafts.
- Full-width dashboard built with WordPress wp.element and wp.components.
- Headers generated from supported WordPress fields, registered single-value scalar metadata, and simple ACF fields.
- Excel field guide and supported choice dropdowns.
- Row validation and formatted previews, with 50 records per page.
- Explicit checkbox selection and confirmation before creating drafts.
- New drafts only; existing content is never updated.
- Automatic content matching helps prevent duplicate imports.
- Personal batch history with links to created drafts.
No account, paid license, external service, or tracking is required. Spreadsheet content is processed on your WordPress site. Temporary previews expire after 24 hours and are removed on completion or discard. Scheduled cleanup of abandoned previews runs through WP-Cron; its timing depends on site traffic. Import history and duplicate markers persist in the database. Files are not added to the media library.
Not every metabox exposes a field schema. Arbitrary custom-coded metaboxes, complex ACF fields, images, taxonomies, relationships, and repeater fields are not supported in this first release. ACF support requires ACF to be active and simple field groups assigned directly to the selected post type.
Excel processing requires PHP ZipArchive and SimpleXML. CSV remains available without these extensions. Processing limits are 5 MB uploads, 10,000 rows and 256 columns; Excel archives are limited to 20 MB uncompressed. Formulas are rejected: paste calculated results as values first.
Source Code and Development
The complete editable source is included in this plugin. Runtime files are authored directly and are not compiled or minified outputs.
- prajesh-draft-importer.php: plugin bootstrap.
- includes/class-pgdim-plugin.php: field discovery, validation, draft creation and history.
- includes/class-pgdim-workbook.php: bounded XLSX reading and template generation.
- assets/admin.js: plain JavaScript dashboard using WordPress-provided wp.element and wp.components. createElement calls are written directly; there is no JSX compilation.
- assets/admin.css: editable backend stylesheet.
No npm installation, webpack, bundling, transpilation or build step is required. Edit the included runtime source directly. WordPress supplies its UI and translation packages; no third-party JavaScript libraries are bundled. JavaScript translations use WordPress.org language packs, and only a development POT reference is included.
Installation
- Upload the plugin folder to wp-content/plugins, or install its ZIP through Plugins > Add New.
- Activate Prajesh Draft Importer.
- Open Tools > Draft Importer.
- Choose a content type, download its template, fill it and upload it for validation.
- Choose the content type, then use Choose spreadsheet to open a compact review grid with 50 records per page and horizontal scrolling for fields. If you choose a file first, select the content type and click Validate & preview. All ready rows are preselected across all pages. Deselect records you do not want, then confirm creation of new drafts.
FAQ
-
Can it publish or update existing posts?
-
No. Every successful import creates a new draft owned by the importing user.
-
Can I import any metabox?
-
No. This version supports registered single-value scalar metadata and supported simple ACF definitions. Fields without a discoverable schema need a separate integration.
-
How do I avoid duplicates?
-
The plugin compares sanitized row values for the selected content type. Uploading an identical row again is skipped. Changing its values may create a new record. Existing records are never updated. A reserved row after an interrupted import should be checked by an administrator before retrying.
-
Can a template be reused on another site?
-
Excel templates carry site and field identity and must match the destination. Generate a fresh template when fields or the administrator language change. CSV validates column names but carries no site identity.
-
How should dates and choices be entered?
-
Use text-formatted YYYY-MM-DD dates and the exact choice keys in the field guide. Separate checkbox choices with a vertical bar.
-
What permissions are needed?
-
Users need edit_posts and permission to create the selected content type. Custom field writes also respect metadata permissions.
-
Is source code included?
-
Yes. PHP, CSS and JavaScript source are included. The dashboard uses WordPress-provided packages and needs no build step.
-
What remains if I deactivate or delete the plugin?
-
Imported drafts remain normal WordPress content. Import history, duplicate markers and source metadata are retained. Temporary previews expire; abandoned database previews are cleaned through WP-Cron while the plugin is active, or WordPress transient cleanup. The plugin does not retain the original uploaded spreadsheet.
