Boxfly – International Shipping for WooCommerce

Description

Boxfly is an Argentine courier specialized in international shipping. With this plugin, your WooCommerce store can sell to customers anywhere in the world and charge the real shipping cost at checkout, with no manual quotes and no rate tables to maintain.

What the plugin does

  • Live rates at checkout. Customers outside Argentina see the “Boxfly international shipping” option with a price calculated on the spot from the weight and dimensions of the products and the customer’s postcode.
  • More than 200 destinations. Ship from Argentina to almost any country in the world.
  • Express shipping with DHL, FedEx and UPS. Boxfly works with the leading international carriers.
  • Door-to-door pickup anywhere in Argentina. You pack the order and it is collected from your home, warehouse or shop.
  • Paid orders arrive in your Boxfly dashboard. When an order is paid, it shows up in your dashboard with the recipient and product details already filled in. You review it and confirm the shipment: a shipping label is never created without your approval.
  • Tracking for your customer. When you create the shipment, the order stores the tracking number and link. Your customer gets them in the order email and sees them under “My account”.
  • No made-up prices. If a product is missing its weight or dimensions, or the destination cannot be quoted, the option is simply not shown.

What you need

  • A Boxfly account (free). Create it at boxfly.net.
  • A WooCommerce store based in Argentina, with prices in Argentine pesos (ARS) or US dollars (USD).
  • Products with weight and dimensions.

Compatibility

Works with the classic checkout and the block-based checkout, and is compatible with High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS).

Languages

The plugin is translation-ready. Translations, including Spanish, are delivered through translate.wordpress.org.

External services

This plugin connects to the Boxfly service to quote and manage international shipments. It cannot work without that connection. All requests are sent from your store’s server to https://boxfly.net/api/v1 over HTTPS, and only after you have entered your Boxfly secret key in the plugin settings.

What data is sent, and when

  • When you save the key in the settings: the key is sent to check that it is valid.
  • When a customer outside Argentina calculates shipping in the cart or at checkout: the destination country, state or province, city and postcode; for each product in the cart, its name, quantity, price, weight and dimensions; and the cart total and the store currency.
  • When an order that chose Boxfly shipping is paid: the order number; the recipient’s name, ID document, phone, email and full address; the products (name, quantity, price, weight and dimensions); and the shipping amount paid by the customer.
  • When an order already sent to Boxfly is cancelled or refunded: the identifier of that order.
  • Every 30 minutes, and when an order is opened, while there are orders waiting to be shipped: the order identifier, to check its status and tracking number.

Every request also includes your Boxfly secret key, your store’s web address, and the plugin and WooCommerce versions.

The plugin does not send any data about customers who choose other shipping methods, and it does not load scripts, styles or images from external servers.

The service is provided by Boxfly. Its use is governed by Boxfly’s terms and conditions and privacy policy.

Installation

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for “Boxfly”, then install and activate it.
  2. Log in to your Boxfly dashboard, go to Integrations > WooCommerce and generate your secret key. If you do not have an account yet, create one for free at boxfly.net.
  3. Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Boxfly, paste the secret key and save. The plugin tests the connection and tells you whether it worked.
  4. Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping zones and add the “Boxfly” method to the zone that covers destinations outside Argentina (for example, “Locations not covered by your other zones”).
  5. Make sure every product has its weight and dimensions.

FAQ

Do I need a Boxfly account?

Yes. The plugin connects your store to your Boxfly account, which is the one that ships the orders. Creating the account is free and there is no monthly fee: you pay for each shipment when you confirm it.

Where can I ship from?

From anywhere in Argentina to the rest of the world. The plugin does not quote shipments within Argentina or shipments leaving from other countries.

Why is the Boxfly option not showing at checkout?

The most common reasons are: the destination is Argentina; a product in the cart is missing its weight or dimensions; the customer has not entered a postcode yet; the “Boxfly” method has not been added to the shipping zone for that country; or the store currency is neither Argentine pesos (ARS) nor US dollars (USD). You can turn on logging in the plugin settings and check the details under WooCommerce > Status > Logs.

How is the price calculated?

Boxfly calculates the rate on the spot from the weight and dimensions of the products, the order value, and the customer’s country and postcode. The plugin shows a single option, the most convenient one.

Is the shipment created automatically when someone buys?

No. The order arrives in your Boxfly dashboard as a draft. You review it, confirm the shipment and pay for the label from your dashboard.

Why is the customer asked for an ID document?

Customs requires the recipient’s passport or ID number for international shipments. The plugin adds that field to the checkout and only requires it when the customer chooses Boxfly shipping.

Does my customer get the tracking number?

Yes. When you create the shipment in Boxfly, the WooCommerce order stores the tracking number and link. If you leave the “Completed order” option on, the order is marked as Completed and your customer receives the email with the tracking link.

What happens if I generate a new secret key?

The previous key stops working immediately, so Boxfly shipping is no longer shown at checkout until you paste the new key in the plugin settings. The WordPress admin shows a warning while the saved key is not valid. The key belongs to your Boxfly account: if you use it in more than one place, update it in all of them.

Where can I get help?
