Wiwercy Web Image Converter

Description

Wiwercy Web Image Converter optimizes WordPress images by converting supported source formats to AVIF or WebP directly on your server.

The plugin is designed for both new uploads and existing Media Library attachments. Conversion runs on your server with Imagick or GD; images are not sent to a remote optimizer. Its Safe Family Migration workflow converts the managed image family, preserves the existing size set 1:1, and verifies attachment metadata and matching post references before removing replaced source files. Failures before that point trigger recovery of the original attachment state and exact post contents. If recovery cannot be verified, both original and replacement files are retained and the problem is reported.

Main features

  • AVIF or WebP output with quality control from 10 to 100.
  • JPEG/JPG input enabled by default.
  • Optional PNG, HEIC/HEIF, BMP, TIFF/TIF source formats.
  • Automatic backend selection: Imagick, then GD.
  • Backend diagnostics show which enabled inputs can be read and whether AVIF/WebP can be written.
  • Optional metadata stripping and JPEG orientation correction.
  • “Keep original if not smaller” safeguard.
  • Safe Media Library conversion that preserves the current WordPress image family 1:1.
  • Existing matching image URLs in posts and pages are updated after successful attachment migration.
  • Conversion history, storage overview and quality preview.
  • No paid tier and no feature locking.
  • Translation-ready admin interface. WordPress.org delivers community translations through translate.wordpress.org.

Before processing an existing Media Library, create a current backup of the WordPress database and uploads directory.

Privacy

Wiwercy Web Image Converter processes images locally on the WordPress server.

The plugin does not send images to an external conversion service, does not collect telemetry or analytics, and does not transmit site usage data to Wiwercy.

The plugin does not load third-party JavaScript, CSS or tracking resources. The optional donation link opens PayPal only when the administrator chooses to click it.

Plugin updates for the WordPress.org distribution are handled by the standard WordPress.org update system.

FAQ

Are my images uploaded to Wiwercy or another external service?

No. Image conversion is performed locally on your WordPress server using Imagick or GD, depending on what your hosting environment supports.

Does the plugin collect analytics or telemetry?

No. Wiwercy Web Image Converter does not collect analytics, telemetry or site usage statistics.

Which source formats are supported?

JPEG/JPG is enabled by default. PNG, HEIC/HEIF, BMP, TIFF/TIF can be enabled when the selected server backend can decode them.

AVIF and WebP are output-only formats. JPEG XL is not a conversion input in 0.9.1; existing JXL attachments are left unchanged. Wiwercy does not enable JXL uploads.

Why are some JPEG or PNG files still present after optimization?

This can be expected. The plugin may keep the original when the converted image family is not smaller, when a source format is disabled, or when a file is not part of a managed WordPress attachment family.

Does Media Library conversion regenerate all image sizes?

No. Safe Family Migration intentionally converts only the files already present in the attachment metadata and preserves that existing size set 1:1. This avoids unexpectedly generating every size currently registered by themes or plugins.

Does the plugin delete original files?

For a successful Media Library migration, replaced source-family files are removed only after the converted files, WordPress attachment state and matching post references have been verified. A failure before source cleanup triggers recovery. If recovery is blocked, original and replacement files are retained with a diagnostic message. An interruption after source cleanup begins preserves the verified replacement state. WordPress image-edit backup files are protected. Enable “Keep original if not smaller” to reject conversions that would not reduce the complete managed image family.

Always keep a current backup before a large bulk conversion.

Why is HEIC or TIFF unavailable on my server?

Those formats normally require Imagick with the corresponding decoder/delegate installed by the hosting provider. The System page shows live input and output capability information.

Do I need ImageMagick?

No. The plugin can use Imagick or GD. The available formats depend on the backend and libraries installed on the server.

What happens when I uninstall the plugin?

Plugin settings, conversion logs, internal plugin tables and the Wiwercy quality-preview cache are removed. Converted Media Library images are not deleted simply because the plugin is uninstalled.

How are plugin updates delivered?

The WordPress.org edition uses the standard WordPress.org plugin update system.
