Description
Put a map on your site in a few minutes: one place on a contact page, all your shops with a list beside them, or a store locator that finds the nearest one. Maps by DeltaBreen draws clear, fast OpenStreetMap maps from servers in the EU, and it is free to start: no card, and no API key to copy.
Three steps to your first map
- Install the plugin and press Connect: sign in or create a free account, and your site gets its own map key. Nothing to copy or paste.
- Say what the map is for (a contact page, a store locator, all your places, delivery areas, an event or a trail) and a ready-made page opens in the editor.
- Type your address, check the map, publish.
Maps with pins
- The Map block: type an address to add a pin, or click the map in the editor. Give each pin a title, a line of text, a link, a photo, a colour and a button of your own (“Book a table”); your places under Map locations bring their phone number and opening hours too.
- Up to 5,000 pins on a map, grouped neatly when they are close together, with category buttons to show one kind at a time.
- Symbols in the pins on every plan: a shop, a coffee cup, parking and 59 more. Your own pin icons on Lite and above.
- Directions your way: the visitor’s own maps app, always Google Maps, always Apple Maps, or none.
- Lines and areas: draw a route, a delivery zone or a park on the map, or bring in a GPX, KML or GeoJSON file, with a trail’s climb and height profile.
A store locator people can use
- Visitors search by town, postcode or address, or tap Use my location, and see your places nearest first, with the distance.
- Each place shows today’s hours, an Open now badge, a phone link, your website and directions.
- A radius, category buttons and an Open now filter narrow the list. On a phone the list sits under the map and a place opens as a sheet from the bottom.
Your places in one list
- Map locations in the admin: the address (found for you), phone, website, notes, a photo, a button and a category with its own colour and symbol.
- Opening hours done properly: day by day with breaks, special days and holidays, and “Closed until 1 November” for a temporary closure.
- Import a spreadsheet (CSV) and export it any time.
- A page for each location if you like, with its map, hours and contact details, and the data search engines read for local businesses.
Looks right on your site
- Six map looks (light, dark, vintage and more), or a style you design yourself.
- Your theme’s colour for buttons and lists, and light or dark to match each visitor’s device.
- Zoom and full-screen buttons, and scrolling that leaves the page alone: two fingers or Ctrl move the map.
- A list beside any map, a search box, and directions drawn on the page.
- Labels in 41 languages, or each visitor’s own.
Privacy and cookie banners
- Servers in the EU, and no cookies set by the maps.
- Ask before loading: a “Show map” button stands in each map’s place, and nothing loads until the visitor agrees.
- Works with Complianz, Borlabs Cookie, CookieYes and Real Cookie Banner.
Move over in a minute
Already using another map plugin? Copy your places from WP Store Locator, WP Go Maps, MapPress or Agile Store Locator, with their categories and opening hours, or import a Google My Maps export (KML or KMZ). The other plugin’s data is never changed.
Fair, flat pricing
- Free for 20,000 map loads a month, with no card. A map load is one page view that shows a map.
- Maps start only when a visitor scrolls near them, so a map nobody scrolls to costs nothing.
- Never an overage bill. Go past your plan and we email you; paid maps keep running while we talk. On the free plan each map shows a small “Maps by DeltaBreen” credit beside the OpenStreetMap one.
Also included
- Elementor Map and Store locator widgets, and shortcodes for every other page builder.
- Maps made in your Maps by DeltaBreen dashboard (by hand, from a spreadsheet or kept live from a Google Sheet) show through the Map block on your site’s own key.
- Places on your own posts: events, products or listings get a place on the map, from a place box or an ACF map field.
- For developers: filters for pins, locations and map attributes, an optional public list of your locations, WPML and Polylang support, and Site Health checks.
- Light: the map script loads only on pages with a map, after the page itself.

External services
This plugin shows maps from Maps by DeltaBreen (https://maps.deltabreen.eu), a map service run by DeltaBreen Limited, Ireland. It is needed for the maps to appear at all.
The service’s servers are in the EU (Germany and Finland). Every request to tiles.deltabreen.eu and maps.deltabreen.eu passes through Cloudflare (https://www.cloudflare.com), which handles the secure connection, filters attacks and keeps copies of map tiles near your visitors. Cloudflare’s privacy policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
When a visitor opens a page that shows a map, their browser:
- loads the map script from tiles.deltabreen.eu;
- asks maps.deltabreen.eu for a short-lived map token, sending your publishable key and the address of the page;
- loads map tiles, fonts and icons from tiles.deltabreen.eu or, on the Free plan, from tiles-direct.deltabreen.eu, which is our own server in Germany and does not pass through Cloudflare;
- for a map made in your dashboard, reads its pins and settings from maps.deltabreen.eu.
On the Free plan the map shows a small “Maps by DeltaBreen” link to maps.deltabreen.eu beside the OpenStreetMap credit; paid plans show only the OpenStreetMap credit.
When a visitor searches in a store locator or a map’s search box, their browser sends what they typed, and the map’s position, to maps.deltabreen.eu to find the place. When a map draws directions on the page, the visitor’s browser sends the start they chose (their location or an address) and the place to maps.deltabreen.eu to find the route. “Use my location” works out the distances in the visitor’s browser and sends no search; the map then shows their area, as it would if they had moved the map there.
In the admin, the plugin sends an address to maps.deltabreen.eu, with your publishable key, only when you ask it to find a place: for a pin, on a location, or for spreadsheet rows without coordinates. “Preview map” in the editor loads a map as a page would.
When you press Connect, your site registers itself with maps.deltabreen.eu (its name and the admin address to return to), your browser goes to maps.deltabreen.eu to sign in and approve, and your site then asks the service for a map key for its own domain. The sign-in ends as soon as the key is saved; the plugin keeps only the key. Check my key sends the key and your site’s address from your browser; it counts nothing. The dashboard widget and the Site Health check ask the same question from your server, at most every ten minutes while you open those screens, and are told how far this month’s map loads have gone; they count nothing either.
A map set to “Ask before showing” loads nothing at all from the map service until the visitor presses “Show map”. If you turn on “Locations for other sites and apps”, your site lists your published map locations at /wp-json/deltabreen-maps/v1/locations for anyone who asks; it is off unless you turn it on.
As with any web request, the service receives the visitor’s IP address and browser details; request logs are kept for at most 30 days, and the service sets no cookies. The plugin sends nothing when no map is shown.

Blocks
This plugin provides 4 blocks.
- Map (Maps by DeltaBreen) A vector map with up to 5,000 pins, your map locations or a map from your dashboard, grouped and filtered by category.
- Location card (Maps by DeltaBreen) One location's address, phone, website, Open now and a Directions button, without a map.

Installation
- Install and activate the plugin: Get started opens, to connect the site and start from a ready-made page.
- Or go to Settings Maps by DeltaBreen and press Connect with Maps by DeltaBreen: sign in or create a free account, approve, and your site gets a map key of its own. (Or create a publishable key at maps.deltabreen.eu with your site’s domain in its allowed sites, and paste it there.)
- Press Check my key whenever a map does not show: it says exactly what to fix.
- Add the Map block to a page, or the
[deltabreen_map]shortcode. - For a store locator, add your places under Map locations (or import a CSV under Map locations Import and export), then add the Store locator block.
FAQ
-
Do I need an API key or an account?
-
You need a free Maps by DeltaBreen account, with no card: the Connect button creates one if you have none, and gives your site its own key. There is nothing else to sign up to and no key to copy.
-
Will it work with my theme and page builder?
-
Yes. The blocks work with any theme in the block editor, Elementor has its own Map and Store locator widgets, and the shortcodes work in any other builder. Settings Maps by DeltaBreen has a shortcode builder that writes them for you.
-
Does it work with caching plugins?
-
Yes. Pages can be cached as usual: each visitor’s browser asks for its own short-lived map token when a map starts.
-
The map does not show. What now?
-
Settings Maps by DeltaBreen Check my key. It tells you whether the key is right, whether it lists your site’s address (Connect again adds it for you), and whether this month’s map loads are used up.
-
What counts as a load?
-
One page view that shows a map, once the map starts. A map starts when it is scrolled near (you can make maps start as soon as the page opens), so a map at the foot of a page nobody reads to the end is never a load. A visitor who keeps the page open, pans and zooms is still one load.
-
Can I move from another map plugin?
-
Yes. Map locations Import and export lists the places it finds in WP Store Locator, WP Go Maps, MapPress and Agile Store Locator, with a button to copy each one’s: places come across with their categories, and their opening hours where the plugin keeps them. The other plugin’s data is never changed, and a place copied once is not copied again. A Google My Maps export (Export to KML/KMZ) imports the same way: its places become locations, each layer a category.
-
Yes. Under Settings Maps by DeltaBreen How maps behave, tick “Ask before showing maps” (or choose it per block): each map shows a “Show map” button, and nothing is loaded from the map service until the visitor presses it. A visitor can choose to always show maps on your site. With Complianz, Borlabs Cookie, CookieYes or Real Cookie Banner, maps follow the banner instead: they start once the visitor agrees there (Complianz’s marketing category, CookieYes’s functional one, or a service you name).
-
What happens if my site gets more traffic than my plan?
-
Unused loads roll over, and a surge pool covers busy months. After that a paid plan keeps running while we get in touch, and the free plan pauses new maps until the next month. You are never charged for use beyond your plan.
-
Is there a credit on the map?
-
On the free plan each map shows a small “Maps by DeltaBreen” link beside the OpenStreetMap credit, which OpenStreetMap’s licence asks every map to show. Paid plans show only the OpenStreetMap credit. The link is drawn by the map service with the map, not added by the plugin, and the plugin puts no other link on your site.
-
Are pins and the store locator on the free plan?
-
Yes, on every plan, with photos, buttons and the Directions setting. Your own pin icons are on Lite and above. A page view of a map or a locator is one map load. A visitor’s search in the store locator is one search (the free plan has 10,000 a month); the suggestions while they type, “Use my location”, the distances and the directions link cost nothing.
-
How are my addresses turned into points on the map?
-
When you find a place for a pin, click “Find this address” on a location, or import rows without coordinates, the plugin looks the address up with the service: one search from your plan each. Rows that already have a latitude and longitude are not looked up.
-
Which shortcode attributes are there?
-
[deltabreen_map]:
map(a map made in your dashboard, by its id or its address: its pins, look and settings come from there),center(longitude,latitude),zoom(0 to 22),marker(truefor a pin at the centre, or longitude, latitude),style(meadow, midnight, neon, vintage, blueprint, sakura, autofor light or dark as the visitor’s device is, or a published style URL),height(for example400px),language(a code such asde, orauto),locations(all, or a category’s slug),filter(truefor category buttons),locate(truefor a “Where am I” button),cluster(auto, trueorfalse),directions(autofor the visitor’s own maps app, google, apple, off, orroutefor directions drawn on the page),list(left, rightorbelow),search(truefor a search box),file(a GPX, KML or GeoJSON file’s address), andposts(a post type whose posts have places, under Settings Location pages and posts) withposts_in(one of its categories or tags) for places from your posts; the store locator takespostsandposts_intoo.Every map, the store locator too, also takes
controls(zoom,fullscreenandscale, comma-separated, ornone),gestures(auto,greedyoroff),consent(trueto ask first),lazy(falseto start at once),accent(a colour such as#0a7cff) andtheme(light,darkorauto). The shortcode builder under Settings Maps by DeltaBreen writes them for you.[deltabreen_pin], inside `[deltabreen_map]…[/deltabreen_map]`: `lnglat`, `title`, `color`, `url`, `phone`, `address`, `category`, `hours`, `photo`, `button` and `button_url`, `glyph` (a symbol such as `shop` or `coffee`), and `icon` (Lite and above), with the pin's text between the tags. [deltabreen_store_locator]: `category` (slugs, comma-separated), `radius`, `units` (`km` or `mi`), `country` (two-letter codes), `style`, `height`, `language` and `directions`.

Changelog
1.0.0
- The first public release on WordPress.org: everything in 0.4.2, unchanged.
0.4.2
- The Map block’s settings start with its pins, so a new map begins by finding its place; its look, height and zoom follow.
- The plugin’s page on WordPress.org: new screenshots and banner, and the features grouped by what they are for.
0.4.1
- Maps made in your Maps by DeltaBreen dashboard show on your site: the Map block’s “A map from your dashboard”,
[deltabreen_map map="…"]or the Elementor Map widget, on the site’s own key. Edits saved there show within a minute. - The readme says what the free plan’s map credit is, and that a map holds up to 5,000 pins.
0.4.0
- Get started: connect the site, say what the map is for, and a draft page made from a pattern opens. Six block patterns in the inserter.
- Every map: zoom and full-screen buttons, scrolling that leaves the page alone, the theme’s colour, light or dark per visitor, and a “Show map” button before anything loads for cookie banners. Maps start only when scrolled near.
- The Map block: a list beside the map, a search box, directions drawn on the page, a trail or areas from a GPX, KML or GeoJSON file, and symbols in the pins; Basic settings first, More options for the rest.
- Opening hours: a week editor with breaks and special days, a temporary closure and a notice. New Opening hours and Location card blocks, with “Open now” worked out in each visitor’s browser.
- The words visitors see follow the site’s language wherever a translation exists, and the embed’s own words stand in elsewhere.
- A shortcode builder on the settings page; Site Health checks and a dashboard widget with the key’s state and how far the month’s map loads have gone.
- For developers: the deltabreen_maps_pins, deltabreen_maps_location, deltabreen_maps_post_pin and deltabreen_maps_attributes filters, an optional public list of locations, and wpml-config.xml for WPML and Polylang.
- Switching: copy places from WP Store Locator, WP Go Maps, MapPress and Agile Store Locator, and import Google My Maps (KML or KMZ).
- A page for each location, with schema.org LocalBusiness data and a store locator page listing them all.
- Places on posts of any type (a place box, ACF fields or two custom fields), shown on maps and store locators.
- Draw on the Map block’s preview: pins by clicking, lines and areas.
- Maps that ask first follow Complianz, Borlabs Cookie, CookieYes or Real Cookie Banner.
- Elementor widgets for the Map and the Store locator.
- Tested on a multisite network: each site keeps its own key, settings and locations.
0.3.1
- Translations now come from WordPress.org’s language packs; the plugin no longer carries its own German, French and Spanish files.
- A category’s pin icon keeps an image address that holds encoded characters such as %20.
0.3.0
- German, French and Spanish, in the site’s language; Austrian, Swiss, Canadian and Latin American sites get the nearest one. Translations from WordPress.org come first wherever they exist.
- The spreadsheet import recognises German, French and Spanish column names too (Adresse, PLZ, ville, código postal …).
- “1 pin”, “1 location” and “1 row” read correctly.
0.2.0
- Many pins on one map, with titles, text, links and colours, found by typing an address; grouped when there are many.
- Map locations: a list of places with addresses, contact details, opening hours and colour-coded categories, with CSV import and export.

- Connect: one click signs you in (or up) and gives the site a map key for its own domain; Check my key says what to fix when a map does not show.
- A single, dismissible request for a review, two weeks after your first map goes live.
- A photo and a button of your own in each pin’s popup; a Directions setting (the visitor’s own app, Google Maps, Apple Maps or none), site-wide and per block.
