Code2 Beacon – AI Visibility Toolkit

Description

AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Claude increasingly answer questions like “a good employment lawyer in Maastricht” or “a bakery open on Sunday near me”. Code2 Beacon shows you which AI crawlers and assistants actually read your site and how many people click through from them, lets you decide per purpose (search, answers, training) what they may do, and gives them clear, consistent information about your business. Everything is set up with a step-by-step wizard, without writing code.

AI visibility statistics

  • Recognises 38 bots by user agent: AI search crawlers, AI assistants fetching a page at a user’s request, AI training crawlers, search engines and SEO tools.
  • Counts people who click through from an AI assistant (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Claude and others), also on sites with page caching.
  • Visits per day and per category for the last 7 or 30 days.
  • No cookies, no IP addresses stored.

AI crawler control

  • Three presets for robots.txt: maximum visibility, visible in AI search but no AI training, or block all AI crawlers. Covers 17 AI crawlers, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity, Google-Extended (Gemini), Apple, Meta, xAI (Grok), Mistral and Common Crawl.
  • Content Signals (contentsignals.org), derived from your preset.
  • Proxy/CDN detection: recognises Cloudflare and warns when its “Block AI bots”, managed robots.txt or HTML caching overrides your choices or affects the statistics.

Business details for search engines and AI assistants

  • Structured data (schema.org JSON-LD): name, description, logo, address, phone, email, opening hours, company and VAT numbers. Choose from 10 organisation types.
  • Works with Yoast SEO and Rank Math: the organisation is merged into their schema graph instead of adding a second one.
  • llms.txt (llmstxt.org): a short Markdown summary of your business, built from the wizard, with live preview. Served dynamically, or written as a physical file for servers that handle .txt files themselves.
  • Shortcodes and a widget for your contact details: [code2_beacon_contact] and [code2_beacon_address].

Site check and hardening

  • AI-readiness score with concrete tips to improve.
  • Optional basic hardening: disable XML-RPC, hide version numbers, block user enumeration, security headers, hide the file editor and more. Everything is off until you switch it on.

Interface in English, Dutch, German, French and Spanish.

Add-on

Code2 Beacon Pro is a separate, paid add-on by the same developer, available at code2.nl. It is not required: this plugin works fully on its own and contains no locked features or licence checks.

External services

Code2 Beacon itself does not send data to the developer or to any third party. One optional feature uses an external service:

  • OpenStreetMap Nominatim (geocoding). When an administrator clicks “Look up coordinates” in the Locations step, the address entered for that location is sent from the administrator’s browser to nominatim.openstreetmap.org to look up latitude and longitude. Nothing is sent unless the button is clicked. Terms: https://operations.osmfoundation.org/policies/nominatim/ — Privacy policy: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy

The site check requests your own site’s robots.txt, llms.txt and homepage to verify they are reachable. The buttons “Google Rich Results Test” and “Schema.org validator” are plain links that open those tools in a new tab with your homepage URL.

Privacy

The statistics store, per visit: the time, the recognised bot or AI assistant, the category, the path that was requested and the HTTP status. No IP addresses, no user agents of people, no cookies. Data older than 30 days is deleted automatically. Deleting the plugin removes all its data.

Source Code

All JavaScript and CSS in this plugin is hand-written and shipped unminified; there is no build step. assets/admin.js (settings wizard and statistics) and assets/referral.js (AI-assistant click-through counter) are the source files themselves.

FAQ

Does Code2 Beacon work alongside Yoast SEO or Rank Math?

Yes. Code2 Beacon replaces the organisation in their schema graph, so there is one consistent organisation instead of two.

Does this block AI?

Only if you want it to. The presets let you stay visible in AI search services while blocking AI training, or block all AI crawlers.

Do the statistics use cookies or store IP addresses?

No. Bot visits are recognised by user agent. People who arrive from an AI assistant are counted by a small script that reads the referrer; no cookies are set and no IP addresses are stored.

My site runs behind Cloudflare. Does that work?

Yes. Code2 Beacon detects Cloudflare and warns when Cloudflare’s “Block AI bots”, managed robots.txt or HTML caching affects your settings or statistics.

My server serves /llms.txt itself and shows a 404.

Choose “Physical file” in the AI & crawlers step. Code2 Beacon then writes llms.txt to the web root and keeps it up to date.

Does Code2 Beacon add a credit or link to my site?

No. An optional “Generated by Code2 Beacon” line in llms.txt can be switched on in the AI & crawlers step; it is off by default.

I used the earlier “AI Beacon” plugin from code2.nl.

Code2 Beacon is its successor. On activation it copies the settings and recorded visits of the earlier plugin once; deactivate and delete the earlier plugin afterwards. The shortcodes are now [code2_beacon_contact] and [code2_beacon_address].
