Description
Most accessibility checkers for WordPress look at what you wrote, inside the editor. This
one reads the page the way your server actually sends it to a visitor, so it sees your
theme, your navigation, your footer, your widgets and whatever your page builder put
there. That matters because an author can have a perfectly clean post sitting on a failing
page and never find out.
It checks eighteen things that can be decided with certainty, among them:
- images a screen reader cannot describe, and alt text that is only a file name
- form controls with no label
- buttons and links that announce nothing
- pages with no title, or no language, or a language that is not a real code
- a viewport setting that stops a phone zooming in
- empty headings, and headings that skip a level in the outline
- embedded frames with no name
- identifiers used more than once, and labels pointing at something that is not there
- elements that jump the keyboard order
- lists whose item count is announced wrongly, and tables of data with no header cells
It also lists the images in your media library that have no alt text, which is usually the
largest and cheapest thing to fix on any site.
What it does not do, and why that is written here
These checks cover roughly a third of WCAG 2.1 A and AA. That is not a limitation of this
plugin, it is the limit of what any automated tool can decide. Nothing here can tell you
whether your alt text says anything useful, whether somebody can complete your checkout
using only a keyboard, whether focus order makes sense, or whether your colours have
enough contrast, which cannot be worked out from markup at all.
So this plugin will never tell you that your site is accessible or compliant, because it
cannot know that and neither can anything else that runs automatically. What it can tell
you is a list of specific things that are wrong, each one with the element it is about.
Nothing leaves your site
Version 1.0 makes no external requests of any kind. Every check runs on your own server,
against your own pages, over your own loopback connection. There is no account, no key, no
signup, and no data sent anywhere. If your host blocks a site from requesting itself, the
plugin says so plainly rather than failing quietly.
Who makes this
AuditRush sells accessibility audits, and this plugin exists because the automated layer of
that work is useful on its own and costs us nothing to give away. There is one link to our
site, at the bottom of one screen you chose to open. That is the whole of the sales pitch.

Installation
- Install and activate.
- Open Accessibility in the admin menu.
- Press Check now on any page, or just publish something: an update queues a check automatically a few seconds later.
FAQ
-
Does this make my site compliant?
-
No, and be careful with any tool that says it does. Automated rules decide about a third
of WCAG. The rest needs a person. -
Why does it say my page could not be checked?
-
Some hosts block a site from making a request to itself. WordPress has a Site Health test
for the same thing. When that happens the plugin tells you rather than showing you an empty
result that looks like good news. -
It reported something that is not wrong.
-
Press Ignore this on that finding and it stays gone across future checks. If a whole
rule is misfiring on your theme, please open a support thread with the URL, because a
false positive is a bug in this plugin. -
Does it slow down my site?
-
No. Nothing runs for your visitors. Checks run in the admin, or a few seconds after you
save, and never during a page load. -
Will it change my content?
-
No. It reads and reports. It never edits a post, a template or a setting.
