Description
Decanter Images converts JPEG and PNG images to WebP and AVIF when they are uploaded. Conversion runs on your own server using GD or Imagick; no external service is used.
Images are served with a <picture> element so each browser gets AVIF, WebP, or the original, in that order of preference.
- Choose which source formats to convert (JPEG, PNG).
- Set WebP and AVIF quality separately.
- Keep or remove the original files (originals are kept by default).
- A converted file larger than its original is discarded.
- An admin notice is shown when the server cannot create WebP or AVIF.
Installation
- Upload the
decanter-imagesfolder to/wp-content/plugins/, or install it from the Plugins screen. - Activate the plugin.
- Adjust the options on the plugin’s settings page.

Are existing images converted?

No. Only images uploaded after activation are converted.
