Wasf AI – Product Descriptions & SEO for WooCommerce

Description

Wasf AI is a product copywriting assistant for WooCommerce. It lives in the product editor: pick what you need, click Write with AI, review the suggestions and apply the ones you like.

“Wasf” (وصف) means “description” in Arabic. The plugin was built for stores that sell in French, Arabic and English, and it writes in any language your AI model handles.

What makes it different

  • Built on the WordPress 7.0 AI Client. By default Wasf AI sends its requests through wp_ai_client_prompt() and the connector you configured under Settings Connectors. The plugin stores no API key of its own in that mode, and it follows whatever provider the site owner chose for the whole site.
  • Made for the product, not for generic posts. The AI receives the product’s categories, attributes, brand, SKU, weight and dimensions, so the copy is based on real product data. It is told not to invent specifications or claims.
  • One pass for the whole product page. Title, short description, full description and the search snippet are written together, so they stay consistent with each other and with your focus keyword.
  • Review first, save later. Texts appear as suggestions next to the editor. Nothing replaces your content until you apply it, and nothing is stored until you update the product.
  • Hands the SEO snippet to the SEO plugin you already use, instead of adding a second SEO layer.
  • No account, no credits, no SaaS. You can also plug in your own key, or a local model through Ollama.

What it writes

  • Product title: clear, with the keyword up front.
  • Short description: two or three sentences shown next to the price.
  • Full description: structured with headings and a list of key points.
  • SEO title and meta description: with live character counters and a search result preview.
  • Alt texts for the product’s own images, as a complement: main image and gallery, based on the same product data. The AI can look at the photos to describe what is really in them.

You stay in control

  • Nothing is saved until you update the product. Titles and descriptions are shown as suggestions first.
  • One click on Undo restores the previous SEO fields and alt texts.
  • The AI is told to use only the facts found in your product data: no invented specifications, certifications or health claims. You should still review every text before publishing.
  • Set the language, the tone, the description length and a “brand voice” note once, then adjust the language and add guidance per product.

Works with your SEO plugin

The SEO title and meta description are saved into Yoast SEO, Rank Math, SEOPress or The SEO Framework, and passed to All in One SEO. If you have no SEO plugin, Wasf AI prints the title tag and the meta description on product pages itself.

Bring your own AI

There is no subscription and no credit system: you connect your own AI provider and pay them directly for what you use.

  • WordPress AI connectors (WordPress 7.0+, the default): uses the connector already configured under Settings Connectors. No key to enter in the plugin.
  • For sites that have no connector yet: Gemini (Google), Claude (Anthropic) or OpenAI, with your own API key.
  • Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint: Mistral, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, Groq, or a local Ollama server.

A Test and load models button checks your key and lists the models your account can use.

For developers

  • wasf_ai_generate( $product_id, $fields, $args ) generates content from your own code.
  • Filters: wasf_ai_system_prompt, wasf_ai_text_prompt, wasf_ai_alt_prompt, wasf_ai_product_context, wasf_ai_request_body, wasf_ai_generated_fields, wasf_ai_providers, wasf_ai_max_images, wasf_ai_request_timeout.
  • API keys can be defined in wp-config.php: WASF_AI_GEMINI_API_KEY, WASF_AI_ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, WASF_AI_OPENAI_API_KEY, WASF_AI_CUSTOM_API_KEY.

External services

This plugin sends product information to an AI service to get the texts back. Nothing is sent until a store manager clicks Write with AI on a product, or Test and load models in the settings. The service that receives the data is the one you select in WooCommerce Wasf AI.

What is sent when you click “Write with AI”: the store name, the product name, SKU, categories, tags, brand, attributes, weight, dimensions, current descriptions, your focus keyword, your guidance and your brand voice note. When you ask for image alt texts and the “look at the product photos” option is on, the product images are sent too, along with their file names and current alt texts. No customer, order or visitor data is ever sent.

What is sent when you click “Test and load models”: your API key only, to list the models available to your account.

Depending on the provider you choose, the data goes to:

  • WordPress AI connectors: the request is handed to the WordPress AI client, which sends it to the provider configured under Settings Connectors. That provider’s terms apply.
  • Google Gemini API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com): Terms of Service, Privacy Policy.
  • Anthropic Claude API (api.anthropic.com): Commercial Terms, Privacy Policy.
  • OpenAI API (api.openai.com): Terms of Use, Privacy Policy.
  • Custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint: the URL you enter yourself. The terms and privacy policy of that service apply.

The plugin does not contact its author and contains no tracking.

FAQ

Do I need to pay for the plugin?

No. The plugin is free. You pay your AI provider for the requests you make, at their own rates. Some providers offer a free tier: check their pricing page.

Which model should I pick?

A small, fast model is enough for product copy and costs the least. Use the Test and load models button to see what your account offers.

Does it overwrite my existing descriptions?

Not without you. Titles and descriptions are shown as suggestions, and they replace the current text only when you click Apply. Even then nothing is stored until you update the product.

Does it work with the new block-based product editor?

Not yet. Wasf AI works with the classic WooCommerce product editor, which is the default one.

Can the AI write wrong information?

Yes, it can happen. The AI is instructed to stick to your product data, but always read the texts before you publish them, especially for ingredients, sizes, compatibility and anything regulated.

Where is my API key stored?

In your WordPress database, in a non-autoloaded option. It is never printed back in the settings page. You can also define it in wp-config.php instead.

Which languages are supported?

The interface is available in English and French. The generated content can be in French, Arabic, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish, or your site language.

What happens to my content if I remove the plugin?

Titles, descriptions and alt texts are regular WooCommerce content: they stay. SEO titles and meta descriptions saved into your SEO plugin stay there as well.
