Gatemi Product Search

Description

A fast, honest product search field for your store:

  • Live suggestions with thumbnail, name and price as shoppers type
(from the second character, debounced, up to eight results).
  • Works without JavaScript: the field is a real product search form —
submitting it runs WordPress’ own product search.
  • Automatic placement on shop and category pages (toggleable), and a
[gatemi_product_search] shortcode for anywhere else — a page holding
the shortcode suppresses the automatic copy.
  • One small stylesheet, one small script, no jQuery, nothing external.

Looking for a search engine rather than a search field?

There is a separate plugin, Gatemi Product Search for
WooCommerce
,
sold on gatemi.com. It is a different plugin rather than an unlock —
nothing in this one is waiting to be switched on. It builds its own
inverted index
: SKU, attribute and variation search with per-field
relevance weighting; AJAX product filters (category, tag, brand,
attribute, price, rating, sale, stock) with facet counts on cacheable
URLs; and search reports with CSV export.

FAQ

Does it search SKUs and attributes?

This plugin searches what WordPress’ own product search covers (titles, content, excerpts) — that is the whole of what it does, and there is no setting that changes it. SKU, attribute and variation search with relevance weighting needs an index, which is what the separate plugin named above builds.

Changelog

1.0.0

  • Initial release: instant search field with live suggestions, automatic
    shop placement and shortcode.
  • Suggestions come from a capped REST route that answers only for two or
more characters, lists at most eight products, and never lists a product
    hidden from search.
  • A variable product is suggested with its price range as one line.
  • The form works before any script has run — it submits WordPress’ own
product search — and the script only adds the live suggestions.
