Description
Altrix Price & Margin Guard for WooCommerce gives store managers a focused, on-demand catalog review. It checks published simple products and published variations in batches and links findings to the product editor.
The free edition flags:
- Zero or missing effective product prices.
- A configured sale price at or above the regular price.
- A current product price below a positive value in WooCommerce’s native Cost of Goods field.
It also shows the product-level margin percentage when a positive cost and positive price are available, and lets you search products or SKUs and filter the results. Cost is read from the individual variation for variations. No additional cost-entry system is introduced.
The audit is read-only. It does not change prices, block checkout, run automatically, store scan results on the server or send catalog data to Altrix Web. Results stay in the current browser tab. Run the audit again after a catalog update for a current view.
Margin is calculated as (effective product price – product cost) / effective product price. It does not include tax, shipping, coupons, payment fees, refunds or overhead, so it is not an order-profit calculation. If Cost of Goods is disabled or an item has no positive cost, a cost-based finding cannot be made for that item.
The separate Price & Margin Guard Pro plugin adds price baselines, configurable margin and price-drop rules, CSV export and an optional below-cost cart and checkout safeguard. Those features and their code are not included in this free plugin. The free audit is complete and does not require an account, license, paid service or subscription.
Installation
- Install and activate WooCommerce 10.3 or later and this plugin on WordPress 6.5 or later with PHP 7.4 or later.
- In WooCommerce settings, enable the native Cost of Goods feature if you need cost-based checks. Enter a cost for each relevant simple product or variation.
- Open WooCommerce > Price Audit, then click “Run price audit”.
- Review any findings in the linked product editors and scan again after changes.

Will this stop customers buying a below-cost product?

No. The free plugin reports possible mistakes only when you run the audit. It never changes checkout behavior.

Does the plugin track every price change?

No. It examines the prices at the time of each manual scan. It does not keep a price history or create a baseline.

WooCommerce’s native Cost of Goods feature may be disabled, or the product or variation may not have a positive recorded cost. Missing cost is not assumed to be zero.

Does it calculate net profit?

No. Product margin compares the product’s effective price with its recorded cost and excludes order-level expenses and discounts.

Is store data sent to an external service?

No. Scan requests go to the same WordPress site and require the store manager capability and a nonce.
