Description
Media Sentry helps site administrators inspect WordPress image usage before making cleanup decisions. It inventories image attachments and local upload files, maps detected references, groups exact and similar duplicates, and gives reviewers a place to protect, ignore, and document decisions.
The free plugin is focused on audit and recovery:
- Baseline image inventory and scan workflow.
- Usage evidence for detected post, option, widget, theme, and WooCommerce product references.
- Unused-media review with preview links and stored review decisions.
- Exact duplicate groups and similar-image review groups.
- Product-image health reports for WooCommerce stores.
- System diagnostics for missing files, unregistered files, generated derivatives, schema state, and upload paths.
- Restore for already quarantined media when the quarantine record and file hash still match.
Media Sentry does not automatically delete files. Quarantine and permanent deletion are not included in this free package and require the separate Media Sentry Pro add-on when available. Restore remains available in free core so a site can recover intact quarantined files without keeping paid cleanup active.
Always keep a current database and files backup before using media cleanup tools. A missing detected reference is evidence for human review, not proof that a file is safe to remove.

Installation
- Upload the plugin ZIP through Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, or install it from WordPress.org when available.
- Activate Media Sentry.
- Open Media Sentry > System and confirm the schema and uploads checks are healthy.
- Open Media Sentry > Setup Baseline and run the baseline audit.
- Review Media Library, Unused Media, Duplicates, Product Health, and System before making cleanup decisions.

Does Media Sentry delete files?

No. The free plugin audits, records review decisions, and restores intact quarantined files. It does not quarantine or permanently delete media.

Is WooCommerce required?

No. General image inventory and review work without WooCommerce. If WooCommerce is active, Media Sentry also reports product image coverage and related product-media issues.

Can Restore recover permanently deleted files?

No. Restore works only for intact quarantined files with matching Media Sentry quarantine records and hashes. Permanently deleted files require a separate backup.

Does Protect prevent all deletion?

No. Protect is a Media Sentry review decision that blocks normal Media Sentry cleanup eligibility. It cannot stop another plugin, administrator, server process, or filesystem change.
