Allows developers and site administrators to quickly switch between different WordPress core versions directly from the WordPress dashboard. Ideal for testing plugin compatibility, debugging version-specific issues, or downgrading/upgrading WordPress core safely.
Developer Notes
This plugin uses PostCSS for CSS compilation and nesting. Source files and build configurations are included.
CSS Compilation
To build the compiled stylesheets:
1. Ensure Node.js and npm are installed.
2. Run npm install in the plugin directory to install dependencies.
3. Run npm run build to compile styles from src/css/ to admin/css/.
Coding Standards
To run WordPress coding standard checks:
1. Ensure Composer is installed.
2. Run composer install to install development packages.
3. Run vendor/bin/phpcs to check PHP code against WordPress standards.
Installation
- Upload the
core-version-switcherfolder to the/wp-content/plugins/directory. - Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.
- Go to Dashboard -> Core Version Switcher to configure and switch versions.

How do I switch WordPress versions?

Go to Dashboard -> Core Version Switcher, select your target version from the dropdown or type a custom/nightly version, click “Save Target Version”, then click the “Install Selected WordPress Version Now” button.

Is it safe to switch/downgrade WordPress versions?

Switching core versions (especially downgrading) overwrites database tables and source files. It is highly recommended to back up your database and files before proceeding.
