BizFinder AI Assistant

Description

BizFinder AI is an AI-powered assistant for businesses. This plugin installs the assistant widget on your site so visitors can chat, search your offerings, book appointments and start voice calls without leaving the page, and it gives you a BizFinder AI menu in your WordPress admin to run everything from there.

On your site

  • The widget is added to every public page on activation. No embed snippets, no theme edits.
  • The install is verified by a one-time handshake with bizfinder.ai; nothing else changes on your site.

In your WordPress admin (BizFinder AI menu)

  • Home: a short setup checklist (widget live, voice, look) and a dashboard with recent leads, conversations, bookings and your plan usage.
  • Appearance: business and assistant name, tone, colors, theme, font and widget placement for desktop and mobile.
  • Voice: pick the voice visitors hear, speaking rate, silence handling, languages and after-hours behavior.
  • Knowledge base: everything the assistant knows, with add, edit, delete, a site re-scan and a catalog resync.
  • Leads, Conversations (with transcripts), Bookings (business hours, scheduler provider, bookings list).
  • Business profile, Notifications, Team (invite teammates) and Analytics and plan (usage, upgrade, manage billing).

WooCommerce

When WooCommerce is active, your published products (name, description, price, availability, categories, brand, tags, the attributes shown on the product page, and each variable product’s options) and your published pages are synced to the assistant’s knowledge base on install, daily, and within minutes after you edit a product or page or a sale changes your stock, so the assistant answers product questions from your real catalog.

You do not need a separate bizfinder.ai login: the plugin creates or links the BizFinder account for you (see “External services” below). If you already have a BizFinder account under the same email, the plugin asks you to sign in once to link the site.

Consent and external service

This plugin is a client for the BizFinder AI service at bizfinder.ai. Activating the plugin sends nothing. When you click “Connect this site”, your site URL, a generated install identifier and your email address as the connecting administrator are sent to bizfinder.ai to verify the install and create or link your BizFinder account, and the assistant widget is then loaded from bizfinder.ai on your public pages. The full list of calls, what each one sends and when, is in the “External services” section below (also shown under “Other notes”). Deactivating the plugin stops all of it; deleting it removes the local credentials. Terms: https://bizfinder.ai/terms. Privacy: https://bizfinder.ai/privacy.

External services

This plugin connects to a service at bizfinder.ai (BizFinder AI, operated by BizFinder.ai) to load the assistant widget, receive its configuration and let you manage the assistant from WordPress. Nothing is sent until you click “Connect this site”.

What the service does: BizFinder AI is a hosted AI assistant widget that provides chat, voice, search and appointment booking on your site, plus the dashboard that manages it.

What data is sent, and when:

  • When you click “Connect this site” (Settings -> BizFinder AI): your site URL, a generated per-install identifier and the email address of the WordPress administrator connecting the site are sent to bizfinder.ai (/api/install/start and /api/install/verify) to complete a one-time install handshake. This is the first contact with bizfinder.ai.
  • Shortly after you connect, after a plugin update, and when you open a BizFinder AI admin screen: the plugin completes its setup with bizfinder.ai. It proves control of your domain a second time to obtain a private admin credential, creates or links the BizFinder account for the activating administrator (sending that administrator’s email address and display name, your site name and the plugin and WordPress versions), registers the catalog endpoint described below, and asks bizfinder.ai to crawl your public pages once so the assistant can answer questions about your site.
  • When you use the BizFinder AI admin screens: each action (saving appearance or voice settings, editing knowledge, leads, bookings, notifications, team members, viewing conversations and analytics, starting an upgrade) is sent from your server to bizfinder.ai’s API on your behalf. Voice previews play pre-recorded samples from bizfinder.ai when you click “Hear it”. Paid plans are billed by card through Stripe; the checkout and billing portal open on stripe.com in a new tab.
  • On every public page load: your visitor’s browser fetches https://bizfinder.ai/loader.js and https://bizfinder.ai/widget-full.js, and the loader posts the install identifier to https://bizfinder.ai/api/widget/install-config to receive the widget’s public configuration (colors, business name, display rules).
  • When a visitor interacts with the widget (types a chat message, starts a voice call, books an appointment), their input is sent to bizfinder.ai’s API for processing. The widget stores its conversation history in the visitor’s browser localStorage; nothing is stored on the WordPress site itself.
  • Catalog sync: bizfinder.ai periodically fetches your site’s /wp-json/bizfinder/v1/catalog endpoint (token-protected, read-only) to read your published pages and, if WooCommerce is active, your published products (including their brand, tags and the attributes shown on the product page), categories, currency and shipping zones, and the ids of products whose stock or options changed recently. This happens after setup, once a day, and shortly after you edit a product or page or a stock level changes (the plugin sends a small “catalog changed” notice to bizfinder.ai when that happens, at most once a minute, plus one follow-up notice for changes made within that minute).
  • Once a day the plugin re-registers the catalog endpoint with bizfinder.ai so the sync keeps working after updates.
  • When you click “Take over this site” (only shown when this site’s business belongs to another BizFinder account): the plugin sends your administrator email and display name and the site name to bizfinder.ai, which archives the previous owner’s data for this domain, notifies that owner by email, resets the business for your account and re-runs the setup steps.
  • When you deactivate the plugin: one call to bizfinder.ai (/api/install/uninstall) marks this install as inactive so the widget stops being served; no other data is sent.
  • When you activate the plugin again on a site that was already connected, once after each plugin update, and when bizfinder.ai reports this install as inactive: on the next admin page load or background setup run (never during activation itself) the plugin calls bizfinder.ai (/api/install/reactivate), authenticated with the private admin credential described above and sending only the generated install identifier, so the widget is served again without re-verifying. No other data is sent.
  • When you open Settings -> BizFinder AI or the BizFinder AI Home screen: the plugin reads the install status from bizfinder.ai (/api/install/status: whether the widget has been seen, the catalog sync state, whether the account is linked). Nothing about your visitors is sent.
  • “Open dashboard” and “Open the full BizFinder dashboard”: the plugin asks bizfinder.ai for a one-time sign-in link (sending the current administrator’s email address and display name and your site name so the right account is signed in); the link expires after 60 seconds.
  • Paid plans: the checkout and billing portal run on stripe.com and return you to a page on bizfinder.ai.

This service is provided by BizFinder.ai. Please review the Terms of Service (https://bizfinder.ai/terms) and the Privacy Policy (https://bizfinder.ai/privacy) for what data BizFinder.ai receives, how it is stored, and how to request deletion.

Source code

This plugin ships its complete source. There is no build step: no npm, no
bundler, no transpiler, and no minified or compiled assets. Everything that
runs is the file you can read and edit.

assets/admin-app.js is hand-written JavaScript on the WordPress core packages
(wp.element, wp.components, wp.apiFetch, wp.i18n). assets/admin-app.css is
plain CSS. No third-party libraries are bundled.

Installation

  1. Upload the plugin zip via Plugins -> Add New -> Upload Plugin, or install it from the plugin directory.
  2. Activate the plugin. Activation contacts no external service; you are taken to a “Connect this site” screen.
  3. Click “Connect this site” to verify the install. The widget then appears on your site, and the BizFinder AI menu finishes the setup (a few seconds) before showing your checklist and dashboard.

If connecting fails (rare — usually a DNS or networking issue between your site and bizfinder.ai), Settings -> BizFinder AI shows the reason, a “Re-verify install” button and a “Diagnose install” test.

FAQ

Do I need a BizFinder.ai account?

Not up front. When you first open the BizFinder AI menu, the plugin creates an account for the email address of the WordPress administrator who activated it (or links the site to your existing BizFinder account after you sign in once). Everything can then be managed from WordPress. The same account also works on https://bizfinder.ai/admin; use the “Open dashboard” button under Settings -> BizFinder AI to get there without a password.

Where do I customize the widget colors, name or behavior?

In WordPress: BizFinder AI -> Appearance and BizFinder AI -> Voice. Changes reach your site within a minute. The same settings are available at https://bizfinder.ai/admin.

How does the install work?

The plugin runs a one-time handshake with bizfinder.ai. bizfinder.ai fetches a temporary file from your site to confirm you control the domain, then issues an install credential which the plugin stores locally. The widget then loads on every public page via a small bootloader. A second, private credential is minted the same way and is used only for the admin features; it is never printed on any page.

Can I exclude certain pages?

Yes — configure include/exclude URL rules in your BizFinder dashboard. The plugin reads them automatically.

What about WooCommerce?

If WooCommerce is active, the plugin exposes a read-only, token-protected endpoint listing your published products and pages, and bizfinder.ai pulls from it to build the assistant’s knowledge base. Hidden products, drafts and password-protected pages are never included. You can trigger a resync from BizFinder AI -> Knowledge base.

How do I uninstall?

Deactivate the plugin in WP admin. The widget stops loading immediately and the plugin stops contacting bizfinder.ai. If you also Delete the plugin, your local credentials and settings are removed; your business data on bizfinder.ai is preserved and can be deleted from your BizFinder account.

Changelog

2.1.0

  • New: stock and option changes reach the assistant within a few minutes. Variation edits and stock changes made by orders, refunds and imports are now sent to bizfinder.ai; before, only saving the product itself was, so the assistant could quote a size as in stock after it sold out.
  • New: brand, tags and product attributes (the ones shown on the product page, such as material or care) are sent with the catalog, so the assistant can answer “do you have this in cotton” or “what else does this brand make”.
  • Fixed: the result of “Take over this site” is now shown on Settings -> BizFinder AI. It was never displayed before.
  • Fixed: deactivating and reactivating the plugin reconnects the widget automatically on the next admin page load instead of needing Re-verify. Activation itself still contacts nobody.
  • Unchanged: everything else. Updating in place needs no re-activation.

2.0.6

  • Changed: activating the plugin no longer contacts bizfinder.ai. Activation now opens a “Connect this site” screen that lists exactly what will be sent (your site address, your administrator email and a generated install identifier) with links to the Terms and Privacy Policy. Nothing leaves your site until you click Connect. Sites that are already connected are unaffected and do not need to reconnect.
  • Changed: the readme documents the plugin’s source layout and confirms no build tools are used.
  • Fixed: removed the “Tested up to” line from the main plugin file; the readme is the only supported place for it.

2.0.5

  • New: the catalog sync sends each variable product’s options and variations (id, price, stock), so the assistant can add a chosen size or option to the cart by chat or voice instead of only opening the product page. Click Resync once after updating so existing products pick this up.
  • Unchanged: everything else. Updating in place needs no re-activation.

2.0.4

  • Improved: Knowledge base entries show a longer preview with “Show all” instead of a silently cut-off line.
  • Improved: a slow answer from bizfinder.ai is retried before the screens show an error, and screens that already have data keep it.
  • Improved (bizfinder.ai side): Re-scan now replaces a page’s entries whatever spelling of the address it was stored under (with or without www or a trailing slash), removes entries whose page no longer exists, skips WooCommerce product, shop, cart and account pages when the catalog sync covers them, and skips WordPress’s sample page and Hello World post. Resync skips WooCommerce system pages and splits long pages instead of cutting them.
  • Unchanged: everything else. Updating in place needs no re-activation.

2.0.3

  • New: Knowledge base screen gains a search box, section filter chips with counts (as on the BizFinder dashboard) and a Deduplicate button that merges entries with the same section, title and content.
  • Unchanged: everything else. Updating in place needs no re-activation.

2.0.2

  • New: “Take over this site” on Settings -> BizFinder AI and on the BizFinder AI screens when this site’s business belongs to another BizFinder account (for example after a site changed hands). Taking over sends your administrator email and name to bizfinder.ai, which archives the previous owner’s data for this domain, notifies that owner, and starts this site fresh for your account. It is not offered while the previous owner has a paid plan.
  • Improved: a site whose business was created by an earlier plugin install (an automatic placeholder account nobody signed in to) is linked automatically on the next setup run instead of asking you to sign in as that placeholder.
  • Unchanged: everything else. Updating in place needs no re-activation.

2.0.1

  • New: plugin updates. Sites that installed the plugin from bizfinder.ai now see new versions under Plugins and Dashboard -> Updates, with one-click update and the standard per-plugin auto-update toggle. (Not used when the plugin comes from the WordPress plugin directory, which delivers updates itself.)
  • Unchanged: everything else. Updating in place from 1.3.0 or 2.0.0 needs no re-activation.

2.0.0

  • New: a BizFinder AI menu in WordPress with Home (setup checklist and dashboard), Appearance, Voice, Knowledge base, Leads, Conversations, Bookings, Business profile, Notifications, Team and Analytics and plan. Everything the BizFinder dashboard offers, from wp-admin, with no separate login.
  • New: the BizFinder account is created for the activating administrator automatically, or linked to an existing account after you sign in once.
  • New: WooCommerce products and published pages are synced into the assistant’s knowledge base on install, daily and after edits, with a Resync button. (The 1.x snapshot endpoint existed but was never read; the sync is now real.)
  • New: verified widget status. Settings -> BizFinder AI and the Home checklist check that the widget is actually on your pages instead of only reporting that a credential is stored, with hints for caching, maintenance-mode and login-protected sites.
  • New: “Open dashboard” signs you in to bizfinder.ai without a password.
  • Security: admin features use a private credential minted by a second domain proof; the public install identifier printed for the loader is never used for anything privileged.
  • Fixed: deleting the plugin now also removes the snapshot token added in 1.3.0.
  • Unchanged: the install handshake, the challenge transports, the loader tag and the 1.x snapshot endpoint work exactly as before. Updating in place needs no re-activation.
  • Upgrade note: if this site’s business already belongs to a BizFinder account you created on bizfinder.ai, the BizFinder AI menu asks you to sign in once to link the site.

1.3.0

  • Security: the WooCommerce catalog snapshot endpoint (/wp-json/bizfinder/v1/woocommerce-snapshot) is now authenticated against a dedicated, privately-stored server-to-server token instead of the install identifier. The install identifier is intentionally emitted in the public loader script tag (it is a public site id), so reusing it to guard the catalog endpoint left that endpoint effectively unprotected. The new token is generated on your site, stored in the database, and never printed to any page. Completes the public-id / private-token split noted as planned in 1.1.0.
  • Upgrade note: after updating in place, click “Re-verify install” on the Settings -> BizFinder AI page (or deactivate/reactivate the plugin) so the new snapshot token is minted and the catalog sync reconnects.

1.2.1

  • Escaped all output in the challenge REST + template_redirect routes (WordPress.org review).
  • Scoped the install-error admin notice to the Dashboard, Plugins list, and our own settings page instead of firing on every admin screen (WordPress.org Guideline 11).
  • Documented the external service (bizfinder.ai) and data flow in a new “External services” section of the readme.
  • Corrected the v1.1.0 changelog entry’s inaccurate claim that the install identifier is not publicly exposed.
  • Contributors list updated to match the wordpress.org account username.

1.2.0

  • Plugin folder + main-file name now match the Text Domain (bizfinder-ai-assistant). Fixes a dual-plugin collision on sites that had previously been upgraded across the 1.1.4 slug rename — an out-of-band folder was being created next to the canonical one and both plugins fought over the same option keys and REST route, causing the install handshake to fail with “did not find the install challenge”. Existing merchant options (site ID, install secret, etc.) are preserved unchanged.
  • New “Diagnose install” button on the settings page probes all three challenge transports (static file, WP REST endpoint, /.well-known/) from the site’s own PHP and shows a pass/fail row for each. Turns opaque handshake failures into an actionable checklist for merchants and support.

1.1.4

  • Plugin slug and text domain aligned to “bizfinder-ai-assistant” to match the wordpress.org-allocated slug derived from the Plugin Name.
  • Tested-up-to bumped to WordPress 7.0.

1.1.3

  • Plugin and Author URIs are now distinct, per wordpress.org submission requirements. Plugin URI points to the marketing page for the AI receptionist, Author URI to the bizfinder.ai homepage.
  • Tested-up-to bumped to WordPress 6.7.

1.1.2

  • Install handshake hardening: surfaces specific TLS / connection errors (cert hostname mismatch, expired cert, untrusted cert, connection refused) with actionable admin messages instead of a generic “could not reach your site” notice. Helps customers self-diagnose TLS configuration issues.

1.1.1

  • Install handshake hardening: the challenge token is now also served as a static file under wp-content/uploads/bizfinder-challenges/ and via a WP REST endpoint at /wp-json/bizfinder/v1/challenge/<token>. Fixes activation failures on sites where caching plugins (LiteSpeed Cache, WP Super Cache) or theme/security plugins short-circuit the legacy /.well-known/ rewrite path.

1.1.0

  • WooCommerce enhancement: when WooCommerce is active, the plugin exposes a read-only catalog snapshot at /wp-json/bizfinder/v1/woocommerce-snapshot so the BizFinder backend can build richer knowledge base content from your products, categories, and shipping zones.
  • Endpoint is bearer-token authenticated against the install identifier. Note: that same identifier is also emitted in a public <script data-install-secret> attribute on front-end pages, so it is not a private credential in the cryptographic sense. A proper split into a public site identifier and a private server-to-server token is planned for a future release.
  • Settings -> BizFinder AI page shows a confirmation hint when WooCommerce is detected.

1.0.0

  • Initial release.
