If I &#8216;hide out of stock items&#8217; &#8211; which is my preferred option &#8211; then Google throws up crawl errors if it had previously indexed a page which is no longer there. See image.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\"  src=\"\/\/i2.wp.com\/thebeadster.co.uk\/screenshots\/Crawl.png\" alt=\"Crawl Errors\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It appears to be the fact that when Google initially indexes there may be x pages of results, but the next time, because items have gone out of stock, there may be x &#8211; 1 or x &#8211; 2 pages in a category.<\/p>\n<p>Is it possible to amend WC to return a &#8216;softer&#8217; response than a 404, perhaps returning a page with a message which Google would not flag as an error.<\/p>\n<p>If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-8181631","topic","type-topic","status-publish","hentry","topic-tag-crawl-errors"],"jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topic\/8181631","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topic"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topic\/8181631\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=8181631"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
