{"id":19032201,"date":"2026-09-29T11:43:53","date_gmt":"2026-09-29T11:43:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/topic\/local-webp-generation-ignoring-crop-positioning\/"},"modified":"2026-09-29T12:36:04","modified_gmt":"2026-09-29T12:36:04","slug":"local-webp-generation-ignoring-crop-positioning","status":"publish","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/topic\/local-webp-generation-ignoring-crop-positioning\/","title":{"rendered":"Local WEBP generation ignoring crop positioning"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve just finished a bulk 60k conversion of images to WEBP using the free local conversion and have found that EWWW seems to have ignored the crop positioning for some (if not all &#8211; far too many to check) thumbnails. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, I have a thumbnail named &#8220;card&#8221;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><code>add_image_size( 'card', 500, 400, array( 'center', 'top' ), true );<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <em>example_image-500&#215;400.jpg<\/em> thumbnail is correctly cropped with center &amp; top, but the <em>example_image-500&#215;400.jpg.webp<\/em> version appears to be center &amp; center, which results in heads of staff photos being cut off!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What would cause this to happen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just to add, we are hosted with WP Engine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-19032201","topic","type-topic","status-publish","hentry","topic-tag-conversion","topic-tag-crop","topic-tag-webp"],"jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topic\/19032201","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topic"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topic\/19032201\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":19032244,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topic\/19032201\/revisions\/19032244"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=19032201"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
