{"id":18455076,"date":"2025-05-07T16:33:45","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T16:33:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/topic\/colour-of-images-dull-and-muted-after-compression\/"},"modified":"2025-05-07T16:33:45","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T16:33:45","slug":"colour-of-images-dull-and-muted-after-compression","status":"publish","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/topic\/colour-of-images-dull-and-muted-after-compression\/","title":{"rendered":"Colour of images dull and muted after compression"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hello,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m running into an issue with several websites currently where JPG and PNG images after being compressed appear washed out and grey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve confirmed the issue by taking the following steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Bulk restoring images (they appear correctly afterwards)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reuploading the image and running compression on it manually<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Converting the images to png and jpg prior to upload. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issue appears to happen on both JPG and PNG. I can also confirm it has happened on two different websites located on two different servers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The image below is a PNG, and on the right side (the web side) you can notice the washed out colours in the face and lips. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.368durham.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/unnamed.png?ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.368durham.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/unnamed-1.png?ssl=1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The above image has a similar result. This image is a JPG prior to uploading.
