Stargazer when used with Justin's Custom Header Extended plugin is a show stopper! Beautiful layout and beautiful headers! Create a skeleton child theme, add some colors to the style.css with some shading and voila, you have a beautifully crafted theme.
The best parent theme I've appreciated so far. This theme excels in all areas including topography and fonts, white spacing, layout, menus, etc. etc. etc. the list just goes on.
Very nice work Justin!
This is just as impressive as any of Justin's work!
It has a beautiful look, and loads of gorgeous little details that many themes leave out. One thing I almost never see is the attention to editor styles here, which are very thorough here. This isn't important to me, as I am not trying to replicate the front-end look of a Post while editing, and I can use preview. But some of my clients might love having this leg up on what their Post will look like before publishing.
The code quality is superb, which would matter to a developer. It's logically organized and understandable.
Possibly because it's been out for awhile and doesn't get updated so often, it lacks the stuff you see nowadays for the hipster home page with zillions of home widget areas. As such, out-of-the-box it's somewhat better suited to a blog than for some other kinds of sites. Having said that, it would be very easy for any good developer to pop in extra widgets for enhanced hipsterism, or a tweaker could use plugins to do that.
I love this theme. Stargazer is a robust theme with great features that just work pure and simple.
I've learned a lot about under-the-hood WordPress themes and child-themes by noodling around with Justin Tadlock's free theme, Stargazer. I use it with the Stargazer child-theme, Kepler, which is also free.
For a mere $25 per year, you can also join ThemeHybrid.com and have access to the user forums and support for Stargazer and all the FREE themes, child-themes, and plugins available from ThemeHybrid. You can get a great education for a low yearly price. It's a great way to learn about the inner-workings of WordPress while browsing the user forums and tutorials, or getting your support questions answered directly.
Frankly, I pay the $25 per year to ThemeHybrid just to support Justin's full-time professional WordPress efforts. It's an amazingly bold business model to provide all of your work for free, and then to trust that people will "pay" for your efforts via a ThemeHybrid.com membership. What a deal!
Big thanks to the developer of the theme! You create something easy to navigate and something that contains all the possibilities an average user like me might need.
While it does not offer a multitude of layout options, Stargazer offers clarity and a nice-looking frame to fill. There are four layout options
1 Column Wide, 1 Column Narrow, 2 Columns: Content / Sidebar, 2 Columns: Sidebar / Content. Within those options, it is entirely possible to create a clean-looking and functional, easy-to-care-for site.
Another masterpiece by Justin Tadlock. Thank-you!
This is a very nice theme, as of itself, clean, wel thought through and executed. And it is different, as the programmer claims.
However, it is given as a Free theme, and it is not really. For it's difference makes necessity for some support acute, and there is next to none at the support forum. I have asked 4 questions, and received an answer to none for months on the forum. The one which was answered was via mail, and only because I have shared translation of the theme.
All support is paid, which costs as much as Premium themes and that is misleading, to say the least. One invests so much to do everything under false expectation - and then hits a wall, when it's too late to go back.
This is very disappointing to me, and that's the reason for low evaluation.
Just about perfect as a parent theme for me to make child themes from, without having to start from scratch, but also without too many features and options. For a very reasonable fee, the support is phenomenally good.
Loved it. The support of schemas is what I loved the most. Great theme.
Very good template.
Love the simplicity and speed. I'll be joining the club soon for better support.
