This is a great theme and easy to work with, for the most part. But beware when you update! The author likes to mess around with the stylesheet, changing values and sometimes even class/id names! This can really mess up your site and cause you a lot of extra time trying to track down what was changed and what you need to do to get your site back to looking the way it should.
It happened once again with the latest update - my ul lists got a huge indent and my eight letter heading became so huge only three letters fit in a row, so it took up the entire page, on three lines!
After about an hour of searching through the densely packed style.css (he doesn't know how to work the ENTER key apparently ;-) ) I finally found that 2em of padding had been added to the ul and all elements had been redefined with new font-sizes. The old font-size was 62%. Now it was changed to 100%. (To put it simply.)
So all of that extra work and I still give it four stars? YES! It's a very good theme. If the author would stop messing about, it would be a five-star rating.
This theme works really-really well on any platform and browser (mobile and otherwise).
I needed a simple theme to link to various sites, including social media, and to display my CV. This is perfect.
Great template, lots of space...so it makes little sense why the header image is so tiny. looks kind of ridiculous...i don't mind the 300px limit on height, but can it at least have a full width image?
Using this theme for my wife's artist website. Its Simple, elegant and does what's needed (customize) without any issues. I don't normally post reviews but this one deserves one. My wife loved the layout and looks on its first impression itself.
An amazingly simple and elegant theme.
Beautiful minimalist theme by an avid developer who provides great support, even though he is already generous to offer the theme for free.
Works well, and huge number of options available :)
I never review themes but there is something about this wonderfully crisp no nonsense theme that I really like. It is so crisp that it works as a simple home web design right through to a corporate look. And as you'd expect it comes up well on smaller devices.
It also seems quite stable.
In a world of over kill it's refreshing to see functional minimalism.
I saw a couple bad reviews in here, so I felt the need to chime in...
I think people tend to forget that the developer has a life outside of Decode. He's a kid, who probably has school work and a social life. He's not working 40hrs a week on Decode for a living. He's doing it in his free time, and giving it away, for free. Don't expect him to drop everything he's doing and make his theme compatible with some obscure formatting change you're trying to make. If you think you can do better, teach yourself HTML and CSS and help the dev out, instead of posting here complaining about how poor the support is.
I've been using Decode for a few months now, and like others, have run into my share of issues. Every time I've posted in the support forum or messaged the dev, I've received nothing but good support and feedback from the both the dev and the community.
Thank you for the great, free theme and for continuing to support it as much as you can.
