Reduce image file sizes, improve performance and boost your SEO using the free WPMU DEV WordPress Smush API.
Saves me around 5 - 10% from each image.
In combination with the Imsanity plugin this is a must have!
I have been using it for few hours, works great with wordpress 4.0. I believe that this will impact the efficiency of my site and I will be looking forward for future releases.
Some cool stuff that I would love to see in the future are bulk smush all images from the site, I have about 278 pages and I can only go one by one, I guess most of the new users would agree on this one with me :) Or perhaps be able to use the gallery view rather than the list view but thats wp limitation.
thanks for the awesome plugin, was reluctant to use kraken io
The plugin works, but it is achingly slow. Waiting for the results can take up to one minute. Makes it practically unusable.
UPDATE April 26th, 2015: the plugins works like a charm now that it runs on the WPMU infrastructure and does not rely on the (apparently VERY slow) Yahoo servers anymore. Compressing single images takes just a second now for me, whereas I used to wait for a whole MINUTE before.
Right now, the plugin does strip IPTC metadata that I need on my site, which is why I'm not actively using it. Once that problem is resolved, I will reactivate it and adjust my rating and review.
Optimises new and existing images. Never had problems.
FYI the images have to be under 1MB to be optimised.
I just tried WP Smush.it and it feels a bit rough around the edges. Bulk optimizing is a shot in the dark. I got no indicator that told me when the optimization was done, instead my site "crashed" or more accurately went temporarily unavailable. Which is fine by me, but there are other plugins that do a better job than this.
The Smush.it service by Yahoo is limited to only smushing images that are smaller than 1mb, this is pretty terrible. This is not the plug-in's fault, so don't come blaming them for this.
If you're looking for a good image optimizer, try EWWW instead. While EWWW is not perfect either, it does not come with Yahoo's limiations (other than your host's own limitations) and it'll tell you how it's progressing through your images.
It is the best plugin of its kind that I have found.
Thank you very much!
Bulk Image compression stuck on no saving images.
then need to run it again and again!
