Installed, configured just how it is on my other site except it no longer works.
Didn't notice that detail until after I installed on my WP 4.3 website.
I activated the plugin and now all I can get from browsers is a timeout error, even when attempting to log into the backend.
I have never modified the login URL, and I did not change anything in the Exclude list.
I can't even access cPanel or FTP!!!
alexlarkin.org is the site.
Yikes. I should have done a backup!
This plugin is completely broken! DO NOT USE! WARNING!!!
I activated it, set it up seemed to be ok. The next morning everything was GONE!! Didn't touch a thing. Still had my admin open, deactivated and everthing went away! Deleted the plugin via ftp. Still NOTHING!!!
BEWARE! NO SUPPORT EITHER!!
I tried to change the background image and could not change afterwards. Then tried to de-activate and re-activate, but still no maintenance mode showing. This plugin is broken!
I installed the plug-in.
Set the options (including the exclude).
Turn on the maintenance mode but I could still see my web pages. The maintenance mode is not showing up.
Locked me out of my site. I had to delete the plugin through my FTP. DO NOT USE!!
I installed the plugin and activated it.
Made my settings including activating it and saved settings.
Opened a new browser session and hit the page to see if plugin works -- I got Site Undergoing Maintenance (perfect !)
Went back to initial browser and hit the page to see if plugin works -- I got the site's home page (perfect !)
Logged out of WordPress as Admin.
Hit the site again -- I got Site Undergoing Maintenance (perfect !)
Tried to log back into WordPress as Admin and I cannot. Keeps going back to login page.
Closed browser and re-opened browser - still can't login.
Now what? Help !
I then FTP'd to server and deleted plugin -- still can't login.
Not a good plugin if you ask me...
I recommend that all previous users of WP Maintenance DO NOT UPDATE this plugin to latest version by the new plugin authors.
WARNING - if you update to Version2.0.2, any site you have closed via this plugin will become visible. You will need to reset and save your settings to re-enable Maintenance Mode.
I have now removed the latest update from all sites where I previously used this plugin and reverted to the latest version by the previous plugin author (Version 1.8.11).
Though the plugin had not been updated for some time, that version continues to work for me without problems.
By contrast the updated version has number of serious bugs IMHO. For example the very useful Backend Role & Front End Role settings appear to be entirely unreliable.
Be advised that the [loginform] shortcode has been removed from the latest version of this plugin, so it is no longer easy to put a login form on the maintenance page.
That was the most useful feature because it made it really easy for people who need to monitor site development or approve maintenance changes to look at the site.
We'll be switching our sites over to the Maintenance plugin since it has a login option, which this plugin no longer has.
