works like a charm
By , for WP 4.0

Tried one of the 4.0 ready ones. Did not work for me.
Installed this. It was a snap. Works great. Installed no problem. Setup no problem. Runs great. No problems

I really like the customizations I can make to it as well.

I like the plugin. the last update to 4.0 brought a lot new features. Thanks for the great plugin!

Why remove functionality?
By , for WP 4.0

I don't understand the reasoning behind removing well-implemented functionality in an upgrade. I was using the plugin with a custom CSS file, updated, and was left with a black text on white background layout – with no way of re-implementing my style aside from hard-coding the CSS into the plugin.

I'm puzzled, and will be looking for another solution.

Straightforward but missing some customizability
By , for WP 3.9.2

Allows a simple interface to hide your site behind a nicely laid out splash page. The settings do not offer very many options. But on the other hand it makes it straightforward and easy to set up.

The detail that puts me off the most is that I am limited to filtered HTML for the content field. No iframes or scripts allowed. The next time I need a maintenance plugin I will try another one.

Just sends generic 503
By , for WP 3.9.2

Unfortunately the splash page doesn't work, and the plugin just sends a generic 503 HTTP response, so visitors see "The service is unavailable" and nothing else.

So it's good to keep search engines from crawling the site during maintenance, but it's not very visitor-friendly. I suppose I'll give it a 2/5 because it does actually put it into maintenance mode, but it doesn't deliver as promised. None of the splash pages actually load.
